Icon12 Profile - 1950 v Due

Setting aside all the other (ahem) issues concerning the Due, OP has conveniently put together an ad campaign highlighting the profile difference between the 1950s Luminor and Due cases.

A thin case Panerai seems like an oxymoron that I wouldn't want.

my 337 is 12.5mm thin. I like the thin manual wind movement.

guys - i like to due. what can i say - member of the anti cuff busting crew

thanks for sharing.

as for me and PAM - not my main water sports watch so that MAJOR flaw can be overlooked. i think it would look the business as a work watch with some presence. love the sunburst

I think panerai loses its DNA with the thinner case, 1950 for me without a doubt.

I stopped by the Beverly Hills boutique today and tried on a Due. It was very refined. Sort of like a 512 or 514 but with a crown guard. Felt like my 380 on the wrist. Could be a nice dress watch. Somehow the thin Luminor seemed a bit out of character for me. Others will enjoy it I am sure.

I know it isn't a big hit here but I could see the rose gold 42mm as my dress watch.

Just plain silly having a crown guard.

It's like having 1.0 litre Vauxhall Corsa & putting massive tailpipe & spoiler on it. No need.

I think a lot of people (who haven't bought yet) are turned off by the thick case that's why Panerai released the thinner Due. I don't know if they are going to sell a lot of the Due but it's more wearable than a thick chunk of metal. Just my opinion.

I've no problem with extending the range but 30m WR & a crown guard ? .. and when a watch is so large but having a thickness of only 11mm, seems proportionally wrong.

Its trying to be a dress watch and pseudo tool watch and therefore fails, as it is neither.

Would the new Due spring bars play nicely with the tubes required in straps meant for "older" watches? If not, the Due creates an issue for leveraging oem straps...

I tried the Duo at the boutique last week... like the thickness of the case, dislike the size (45mm), it just feels like a frypan on the wrist. Very light, over polished and sparkly, there is no "tool watch" feeling there, more like a confused cross between different styles. Movement is pretty ordinary, stamped out bridges etc., you all know the drill. Overall, after wearing 1950 cases for years (I used to be a hardcore Panerai fan until 3-4 years ago, now have one left in my collections, and haven't worn it for over a year...), this feels a bit like a toy watch, and has zero character from the main line of Panerai. Prob a good starter for someone who is interested in Panerai design (you still get the CG, even if it's a totally useless appendix!), but the price point is too high and there are way too many better watches in that range from other players.

Exactly what I've been saying ! . . but I haven't had the benefit of seeing one in the flesh, you have now confirmed my thoughts exactly.

The "NEW" 1950 isn't entirely new. It's about the size of a 233 without the dome.

Maybe the big watch fad is fading and they are looking for a new way to appeal. Fine by me, but if they are cutting corners without cutting prices, that is not going to be a long term solution. Is the due significantly cheaper?
