(Original?) Vintage Date 1601 WITHOUT "Superlative" on "Officially Cert. Chrono."?
Hey guys,
It's been a while since I've been on here... I recently bought a nice vintage Rolex but I've never seen a Rolex (caseback dates to Q1 1960) without "Superlative" in the two lines "(Superlative) Officially Certified Chronometer". Was this intended or was it repainted for whatever reason? I know sometimes small things matter (e.g. "underline dials") and was wondering what this exactly meant... if anything? Calibre 1560... Butterfly roter. Pics attached; I don't have the MPN but assuming 15xx or 6xxx. Thanks!! |

hi whether it's repainted or not it's the earlier version "OCC" type dial. later versions have the newer style text.

well, apparently it's never been repainted (according to the first owner). I just never have seen it written out like this...

Rolex 1601 should say Datejust, not Date on the dial.

I actually never said Datejust 1601... I said OP Date 15xx; And in reference to the 1st reply, what's the "earlier version OCC dial"?
I know, right? This has to be an earlier Date 6xxx... but my Dad has it right now and I don't have the reference number at hand yet... I can confirm it's never been repainted or redone. So a bit puzzled... |

Whoops my bad. There's no date 34mm 1601. I don't think this is a 15xx either. But does anybody have an actual answer?
