Taiwan...
My apologies for my recluse behavior lately, but life is in transition. Big time.
I am thinking about moving to Taiwan and doing some studying (Mandarin) and teaching (English.) Has anybody been there, lived there or is anybody from there? Any info from anybody would be greatly appreciated. I have read as much as I possibly can on the internet about Taiwan, but to actually get an opinion from someone would be nice. Thanks and much Aloha in advance. |

I've been there for 1 week, in March for the last 3 years.
I think the south of Taiwan is the most beautiful. Taipei is a huge city, and like many other such cities around the world. The people are very friendly. Prices are quite reasonable for most basic needs. The people are proud of their culture and do not like to be thought of as 'Chinese' as they are in fact "Taiwanese".

I'll try to put you in touch with a young Taiwanese woman whom I helped to raise. She's from Taiwan, grew up there, fluent in English and well-educated(lives in Texas right now). I'll see what I can do there buddy! Take care. Most of us would like to have the option(s) you have.
best, dan |

I just PM'd you the email address of a buddy whose family is from Taiwan. His wife is, too - she goes back to visit when she can. He is also a BIG Rolex fan (owns two SS Daytonas and a Sub) - so you ought to have a little in common!

I checked with the young lady. She will be happy to tell you all about Taiwan, and there's a decent chance for some introductions to Taiwanese women too.

Taiwan is one of the best city to live in Asia. Personally I rate it better than South Korea and Japan

Tom: good to see you back, and glad you're doing well. Looks like retirement is treating you well. How's Hawaii?
