1675/16750 help. Looking at a purchase

I ran across a 16750 at the same estate jeweler shop where I picked up my 79090 Tudor a few months ago. I have always loved the Pepsi and Coke GMT's but have never acted upon it.

At the jewelers the other day and they have this (these) and wanted to get everyone's opinion. I am really more interested in the one on the right which I believe to be a 16750 matte dial (no wg surrounds, hand stack looks right??) and the one on the left is a 1675 I believe??? From the limited research that I did matte dial 16750's are a little harder to come by and therefore a little more desirable. I like the "untouched" look of the watch where as the one on the left seems to be a little over polished at quick glance.

The watch people I usually talk to were not there so I did not even have them taken out of the case to closer inspect. Will be going back for better pictures in next couple days.

I am assuming what I see is what I get, but my 79090 had complete box and papers when I bought it so I am not really sure.

My main concern is the 8 o'clock marker and the coloring of it. The iPhone photo makes it look worse than it is in person, the screenshot is more representative of its appearance.

What I really want to know is do the dial/bezel insert/hands all look like they were from the same time period/watch? Would the experts say that it is a good representation of a mid 80's piece (assuming as I do not have the SN yet).

Any other thoughts on the 1675?

Any pictures that would help??

Price wise the one on the right is in the mid $4k's and the left is in the mid $6k's if i recall correctly from peering at the tags thru the case.

Mid $4K for a 16750 head only seems quite cheap. What's the catch?

I think the condition partly. And partly that they are a small store that does not do a large watch business. Probably bought these from an estate. They had a ND ceramic sub like new, full set that they offers me several months ago in the high $5k's. It is still there.

I think it may be the picture. I am going tomorrow to get better pictures. But it almost appears that way.

Digging a little more. Seems like it may be a Mk1 16750 dial??? The tall crown lines up with the L and the e?

The matte dial on the 16750 stops around 83/84.

Am I wrong thinking that the dial on the left is a service dial?

I believe the one on the left is a 1675. Could be wrong. Look at the last picture I posted. It pretty clearly shows the gmt hand directly under the hour hand. That is a 1675 stack I believe. Again, could be wrong just getting educated as I have these available to purchase.

Great eye. Just went and looked at it closer. It is a 16750. 8.1m serial so comfortably in matte dial range. The 8 o'clock line dot is missing. There is damage to the crown on the dial. The 26 on the date wheel has some rust but I am assured it was fine they and the movement is clean with no water damage. See attached pics. He has a 78350 bracelet for it as well. Will need the proper end links as the ones with the bracelet are 1mm too small. Very low $5k range on the bracelet.


I would probably leave the dial alone. Is it common for the bezel to stick out past the sides of the case? I have never looked this close at these.

I am going to keep looking. The 1675 is gone. Sold it this morning. Has another one he said the thought was coming in. I can be in this 16750 in the mid $4k for head only.

That green lume on the second hand, and the damage to the crown and 8:00 marker would be impossible to ignore

Too many issues - lume at 8, crown logo, rust on datewheel, list goes on.

Even that crown looks sus to me... anyone else?

You might want to consider buying from someone reputable. The 1675 had a service dial which wasn't mentioned here anywhere. The photos of the 16750 dial clearly indicate some issues there. Nice examples at $4,000 or $5,000 just isn't going to happen unless the seller is totally unaware of the market - they are bringing double those prices.

Very nice complete sets I have seen in my searching since I found this one have all been closer to $9-$12k but thinking this one was basically head only I thought he may be close to the right number. But I also saw that much like real estate and location are important, vintage GMT's and condition is paramount.

They sold the 1675 today. Not sure who bought it.

I knew the 16750 had some issues but didn't realize the extent until I went to look closer today.

I would not say the seller is completely unaware of the market but he is not a big vintage Watch dealer for sure. My 79090 came from an estate they bought (their primary business is estate jeweler and diamonds) and was a great find. This one, not so much.

I passed. But he did have a couple really nice used Rolex and Tudor. Day might not be a total waste.
