To wear a Rolex or not wear a Rolex

I have a christmas party tonight at a customer's house and I really want to wear my new Rolex, but I am afraid they might notice. Maybe they will think I am charging them too much? Maybe they won't notice and I can enjoy wearing my new watch....I just can't decide what is best. Also, I work for my family business and my parents and grandparents might notice my new watch. We all make good money, but spend it on different things. They would think an expensive watch is ridiculous....just not sure what to do. If it matters, the customer hosting the party tonight is very wealthy.

You are putting way too much thought into a watch.

Almost nobody will even know that you are wearing one, let alone what make and model it may be.

If you're THAT concerned about what others think and how they may react to your timepiece, I'd venture to say that you probably shouldn't even have a Rolex. Wear it for you. No one else.

I'm not saying it's likely, but if they're a customer and react poorly, it come be bad for OP's business. So this isn't a "forget the haters" type of social situation where he's worried about being judged, but something that could actually matter.

Having said that, if everyone there is as wealthy as it seems, I doubt anyone will care.

Agree with Opus. Wear the watch for you. You are free to do whatever you want with your money. If you have to worry what company you wear your watch in then I say sell it.

If your customer is THAT wealthy then maybe you aren't charging him enough. Goes both ways.

Wear it. Your parents will get over it too. Most people don't notice watches.

Must wear it! Nothing wrong with being a little socially conscious, but you bought the watch to wear so wear it.

Think of it like wearing a pink shirt to the occasion. It's just a pink shirt. If you are awkward because you're in a pink shirt, that's all on you. Now if you're comfortable wearing your pink shirt, no one will mention it except maybe to say, "I like your shirt."

That being said, if you're the type that can't wear a pink shirt because you have some overwhelming fear everyone is going to be judging you and you can't stand the thought of ANYONE noticing your pink shirt, then sell your Rolex.

Don't worry, be comfortable in yourself and your choices and enjoy the party.

Or mask it with an ugly Christmas sweater? The long sleeves will cover it anyways.

To wear a Rolex or not wear a Rolex

97.3567% of people don't notice what watch one is wearing. If they do then they are one of us (WIS's), in which case it will be appreciated. And maybe start a conversation.

Unless it's blinged out with diamonds, Rolex is not ostentatious (for the most part). In fact, it's on the other end of the spectrum.

Wear the watch for which you paid good money and enjoy it!

I've never ever worried about wearing a watch of mine (except on a stag do). No point in having it if I can only wear it in specific situations.

This statement is simply not true, and unverifiable. Maybe 97% of people don't comment, which is more likely the case.

But, to your question, I would wear it.

I have to agree that people notice your watch. Everyone does.

I have a Junghans Max bill on a mesh bracelet which I wore once to dinner with friends and my friends girlfriend noticed and asked me about it. If it looks good, is shiny, people will notice. If people think/know you are doing alright/well off it's even easier for them to make up their mind.

If you're really that concerned about what others will think of you, will you really enjoy wearing it?

Maybe for the setting, it's not the right watch to wear.

There's nothing wrong with considering the feelings of others, if you think they might be offended or worse.

On the other hand, not many folks pay that much attention to wristwatches these days, unless you're wearing a smartwatch, which I think people do notice.

I'd wear the watch. Nobody's going to pay enough attention to realize what watch you're wearing anyway.

I am always the guy wearing a pink shirt, yellow pants, bow tie, etc so I am wearing the watch. It is just a SS Sub, so I doubt anyone will notice! Thanks for the advice!

I think we've met!

Enjoy the occasion AND the feeling that you get when you slip your watch on to your wrist. There's just something about wearing a Rolex.
(It's NOT necessarily the amout of cash that it cost you, either!)

Party on!

Later.
