Rolex Versus Tudor

Please can you tell me the main differences between Rolex and Tudor.

I'd say the main difference is the movements. Tudor uses ETA and their own in-house movements.

Another would be the use of 316 SS instead of 904L.

Then, I would say that Tudor doesn't use 18K gold under the crystal the way that Rolex does.

The bottom line is that they both make great watches.

I believe some of the vintage Tudor subs used a Rolex movement. There are plenty of people here that know way more about Tudor than I do. Regardless, they are cool watches. If they weren't so thick and sat high on my wrist, I would have one.

Thanks Guys, does Rolex own Tudor as i thought the movements were the same but the case materials were inferior ?

Yes, Rolex owns Tudor and they are made at the same facility in Geneva.

Tudor now makes some of their own movements in-house, and is likely to increase models into the future. Tudor and Rolex do not share the same movements.

There is nothing "inferior" about Tudor or their materials. It is simply another brand name (like Cellini) in the Rolex line-up.

Tudor is a great watch made by Rolex to a lower price. From the start it have Rolex movement, then ETA's and now they
made inhouse movement. I will say they will get Omega some competition.

Personally, I would have to argue that Tudor is more in competition with Tag or Movado rather than Omega.

And please note, I am a big Tudor fan.

I love Tudor designs but they are thick and clunky. They wear big while Rolex tends to sink into one's wrist and have a shorter profile due to the design of their case backs. This is the major point in my choosing Rolex over Tudor. I really wanted to get the Tudor Ranger but I felt it's dial was too big even if the case did fit my wrist. So I got an explorer. A black bay wears more like a seadweller than it does a sub because of its flat caseback. Just my two cents. I love both brands and don't think one truly competes against the other.

They are both great I happen to have both, of course everyone will say Rolex its what you like better. Also Tudor warranty is 2 years Rolex is 5.

Tudor is a brand that lacks identity. If you look at how Rolex has evolved through the years, it has been a thoughtful progression. Tudor, on the other hand, has been all over the place with all sorts of models that have come and gone.

When Tudor was introduced, it had a purpose. It was a way for somebody to get the quality of a Rolex watch at a more affordable price point. Now, Tudor primarily serves as an outlet for Rolex to experiment without having to worry about diluting its own image.

I would love for Tudor to be like it was back in the day, but since Rolex has transitioned to a luxury brand, it wouldn't make sense from a business standpoint to offer nearly identical products at a discounted cost. Rolex would essentially be undercutting themselves.

Tudor serves a price point as it always has since inception. We WIS have ascribed some of Tudor's more recent model designs as part of a Rolex strategy. I'm not so sure...

But without using the adjective that offends, the brand is lower in station, rank, degree, or grade compared to Rolex. But it does serve a purpose.

There was a time when not much in their line interested me at all, then they started introducing refreshed models from the past and also toning down the designs just a tad.

Right now I have what I feel is a good representative sample of their sports line and I'm quite pleased with myself for getting them from my AD while the getting was good.

X2. Tudor as a brand has realigned and appears to be working off a new strategic playbook since 2012. I'm not seeing the hot mess of product releases that we saw in the late 90's/2000's any longer.

Tudor... Rolex.... Omega..... they are all great watch brands. If you like one of them, buy, wear and enjoy... They can all stand on their own. They are all different but all are quality. If people could get past how much $$$$ is on their wrist, people could then just enjoy these fine timepieces for what they actually are..... fine timepieces.....
