Trusted sellers?

I keep seeing the advice for someone looking for a specific model to use the forums "trusted sellers". So I want to ask what constitutes a trusted seller? Has someone considered a sticky list of these dealers? BTW, how do you buy the seller before you buy the watch?

I've bought watches from both and you couldn't do better.

A "trusted seller" title is something earned within the TRF community. It's not an award or merit, more like a name that's given to a seller with a stellar sales record, and has a reputable, long-standing history here on TRF.

Enjoy your hunt!

Look at the feedback section for a bit, you will get a handle on who's who. Trust your instinct, watch for low count posters etc...

You do your due diligence by reading up on their feedbacks in the Who's Who section.

And you can't go wrong with any of the above mentioned sellers.

Also consider looking at what other watches they have for sale. A guy like DavidSW might have half a million dollars worth of watches for sale at any give time. The last thing he wants is a customer feeling ripped off and criticizing him all over these boards.

Look at who's selling a lot of watches here. Your transaction is safe with them.

My experience. Looking for another watch recently. Saw one on the website of a trusted seller. Went into a AD (non Rolex) here in the city I live and found the same watch for 2k less. Just do your homework.

All very good suggestions.....this is what I would do (and did when I was new).....go to the classified and see if you can find a watch you like.....then search the who's who section using the seller's handle...if you see 100's/1000's of feedbacks....most likely it's a trusted seller of high merit @ TRF.....this includes people like justrolexes, ocrolexguy, sohais/sohail, davidsw, takuya, lawrenceb etc (those are my personal top guys for modern pieces....I got another list for vintage). Usually if thy have 50-100 feedbacks, they are pretty rock solid as well. Always buy the seller....I wouldn't be tempted by small savings from someone with no feedback or just 1-2 references....risk is too high. Good luck.

The names mentioned above are golden, and you will receive what you pay for. Beware of sellers with low post counts or recent TRF memberships. Not all sellers are honest and it is your responsibility to do due diligence and find a seller you can feel comfortable with. Remember, you are bank wiring thousands of your hard earned dollars to someone you most likely have never met. Contact a seller by PM, email or phone and build a bit of a rapport before making the transaction. I personally love the trusted seller method of purchasing a Rolex and will never buy from an AD again!

I wondered the same things a few months ago when I decided to buy my first Rolex and signed up here. I read all through the forums and archives, researched the who's who section and decided on DavidSW. I then called him a few times and asked questions, and he was excellent. When I decided on the exact watch, I used his website to buy it via PayPal and my Amex for added peace of mind, and had the watch in less than 24 hours. Seriously, it was a great, painless experience and I can't recommend him enough. He has earned my recommendation and will certainly be the first place I go for repeat business when I'm ready for another one. Have fun!

There are pros & cons of using both Trusted Sellers AND Authorized Dealers. You should check both out before making a decision.

Good luck!

That's why they're called Trusted Sellers and not Cheapest Sellers.

I'm not knocking trusted sellers. There are a lot of great ones out there I'm sure. I don't have much experience with watches but when I go into an AD I expect them to be the most expensive option. I would not pay a premium for anything unless it's something I can't get at retail or find. For a second hand dealer to charge a premium just because to me istrying to reel someone in that doesn't know any better. Price and availabity is the only reason I would go elsewhere. Not unless I'm missing something or they are bringing a value the AD can't. Just my 2cents.

Send me a PM and I can direct you to 2-3 trusted sellers with impeccable credentials in the San Diego area if that works.. I'd say over a 1000 flawless deals on the forum here.. I'm sure if you come to agreement you both could meet in the middle of LA and San Diego

There are a handful I've had great dealings with....Jacek/HQMilton, springer, greekbum, krlyuzh/Kirill/lunaroyster comes to mind....haven't dealt with some but they seem extremely reputable too like Michael Morgan, Andrew Shears/sheartime, Eric Ku/10pastten.com......I'm sure there are others but the guys I've dealt with have been good to me thus far.....
