Watches passing airport x-rays

Hi all

I was wondering with all the problems that can faced with magnetisation and such. Should have any concerns putting a watch into an x-ray machine.

Possibly a very outdated noob question but I'm learning.

You've never taken your watch off at airport security?! How is that possible?

I never take off my watch either. I mostly fly out of Atlanta and the body scanner keys that something is on my wrist. The TSA agent normally says "Sir, may I see your left arm?" Then, my sleeve is raised and I am on my day. I have actually had a few TSA agents compliment my Rolex.

Absolutely no concerns passing through X-rays or body scanners.
I generally don't take my watch off unless specifically asked to do so.
If I do take it off, I make sure it goes into my hand luggage.

Never take your watch off! Quite a few horror stories on here. If you want to take it off, do so before entering the airport and put it safely buried in your luggage.

I never take my cheap watches off (I don't own an expensive one yet).......but I am a TSA pre-check/NEXUS member, so they really don't care, I'm allowed to wear my jacket, shoes, belt and don't have to remove my laptop from it's bag either.

I'd never take a Rolex off.......things do get stolen from time to time.

FWIW real 18K + gold does not trigger the metal detector.

Interesting question though.

I leave mine on... several times a TSA agent has asked me to take it off. It's scary throwing your watch in the bin though...

I've taken Rolex, Omega, and Seiko through. Never a problem. Half the time I'm asked to remove my watch, half the time I am not. They always make me take my shoes off, though.

I always took my watch off until I read about others not taking theirs off on this forum. On my last trip, I told the TSA agent that I would like to keep it on and he said 'no problem.'

You don't have to put your watch through the X-ray belt. At most I've been asked to take it off and hold it in my hand when I go through the scanner (like they do with loose cash, boarding pass, etc.)

In the US for domestic travel we can keep it on. No issue getting scanned though if you have to take it off

I've sent mine through the x-ray many times, no issues.

If you travel outside the USA you will be required to remove it in many jurisdictions. Conceal it in your carry on and send it through the x-ray without worry.

Well you should try flying from Salzburg in Austria.

Watches have to be removed and even chargers for cell phones and cameras have to be removed from cases and put separately in the trays

How would X ray radiation magnetize anything?

I've never taken mine off either. I always get directed to the X ray machine though.

In the US, you're not required to take your watch off anymore. if it shows up on the body scanner (likely), the agent will ask to see your risk. I was told this was due to excessive liability of watches being both stolen and left in bins, many of which were expensive. I haven't taken mine off for a couple years now.

In the past 3-4 years I've not had to take it off traveling all over the US and internationally.

In the past they used to make me take it off.
