Groupthink: my next addition

[Golden Ellipse]

Ok TRFers, buy my next watch for me. I'll give some loose context, conditions, and the current collection, and you fill in the gap.

- Professional engineer with kids and very active lifestyle.
- Next addition should be <$50k.
- I value quality over recognition in both life and watches.
- Having a seconds hand is not critical. However if a watch has one, a sweeping seconds hand *is* important. Not a fan of dead beat seconds.
- Chronographs not allowed in my safe :)

Ceramic Daytona of course! Should check all your boxes and it looks like the chrono could fit into your collection. Running seconds at 6 as well. BTW, incredible collection you have acquired there.

But, since you asked...how about a sky dweller? Black dial with arabics would be my choice.

Congrats on your great and large collection. But obviously our taste of watch is very different. I would only add your AP to my collection.

PP 5167 or RG YM
On the other hand, you've got a pretty legit collection. Maybe don't add and just enjoy what you've got either way, good luck!

A lot of pretty spot-on recommendations.

One thing I neglected to mention -- I've got 6.5" wrists which, unfortunately for me, precludes much of anything above 40mm. I've had and sold a PAM233 (awesome watch) and a 216570 (also awesome), Sinn U1, IWC 5001-07, and some others before realizing that I can't fool myself anymore...40mm+ on me just looks dumb.

Clearly I'm a slow learner.

Right now leaning toward a DD40 (not sure metal or dial combo) or possibly a 5711/1R.

Just curious, why are you against chronographs for your collection? For an active guy, a chronograph will be a nice sporty change.

I think a WG DD40 with the olive green dial is a killer watch and would be an awesome addition to your already awesome some collection. At 40mm the size should be just right for you.

I think an AP Diver would be a good get. You don't really seem to have any "chunky" watches, and that would be a perfect addition to fill that category

Given your collection, I'd suggest...

AP of some kind. Millenary? Offshore? The Jumbo is awesome, but there is plenty of AP that you could get into.

Independents. Think DeBethune, another FPJ?

If you stay in the Rolex family, I think you may be able to squeeze in a Platona from a TRF dealer below 50k. If not that, try a Day-Date, SkyDweller, or maybe PM Sub.
