ABC Restoration: before and after
ABC Watchwerks, Alex and Aaron, restored my old Rolex Oyster from 1949. I had traded the watch in 1978 for an Omega Speedmaster First Watch on the Moon which I had won, new in the box, playing cards in Madrid, Spain.
The Oyster belonged to a friend whose parents had bought it for him when he was born. It had a gold-filled or laminated gold case, I don't exactly which, that had deteriorated with time. The movement, however, remains perfect. I never had had a Rolex, my friend fell in love with the Speedmaster, so we traded. I never got to use the old Rolex, but I plan to use it now. I think the guys at ABC Watchwerks have done a great restoration job. I look forward to your comments. |

Mid Case and Crown Changed?
Seems like mid case has been changed from gold filled to SS (no lug holes - then lug holes) plus crown has also been changed to a Rolex Oyster crown?

Thank y'all for the kind replies. Yes, the mid case was switched from gold plated to SS. Finding the SS case for that movement was no easy chore. The crown was replaced for a period correct one. That's a 35mm case, which is just fine for me. My wrist is slightly over 7 1/2" but I much prefer smaller watches than larger ones. The movement is in tip top shape. Nice resurrection, I'd say.
Dealing with Aaron and Alex at ABC is great. Full California. Chill, laid back, forthcoming, helpful, very nice and personable, courteous, honest, first rate watchmakers. |

Wow, looks like a different watch. Er, with only the bezel, dial, hands, movement and possibly caseback being kept and all else replaced, one might be able to argue it is a different watch! Beautiful, though, perfect for a daily wear, good for you.
