Need a little help on this one - Experts?

The model number on this watch does not look right. It may be the angle on which the picture was taken. The lines do not look clean and the "1" does not seem in the right format.

What do you think?

Hey TTG, I looked at all the pics and it looks all right to me. I don't know if the camera was shaking, a mis-stamp or what. But the watch in general looks good.

Err buddy TTG...although Orchi concurs with buddy Stan...on the case Ref# issue...as it may be seen as inconsistent nos. stamping job...the watch said to be "R Series 1988" could mean correctly Ref 16800 of that era...or
sometimes referred to as "R168033..." in the Rolex catalogue...

HOWEVER...the CLASPS CODE seen on the bracelet "J10" in one of the pics...could be dated back to 1985 or so...which is like 3 years backwards...!

Hmmmmm.......strange one this watch is...

This calls for an expert opinion from Buddy Stan! where art thou...???

Hey Orchi, some interesting points you make, but 1985 and 1988 are fairly close in dates in the scheme of things with Rolex. Also, these clasp date codes aren't 100% accurate, but more of a guide.

Very well could be the original band but only Rolex knows for sure.

Could be the older clasp without the gold running through the clasp. This would be a non-SEL bracelet.

The part no. seems okay. The '18' the follows represents 18 K gold.
