PAM 000 - yes or no?

Hi All,

I am new to Panerai world and been bitten by the Panerai. Been looking around and have set my heart on a PAM 000.

Been searching for some time and manage to find a BNIB R series for a price close to retail.

My question is, should I pull the trigger at this price point or keep looking?
Settle for an early series? which I find the price is quite high for used examples

Any advice would be appreciated.

1) the most expensive watch you'll buy is the one bought instead of the one you wanted.
2) 000 = yes! yes! yes!

R serie is the last one in production. The 000 has been replaced by the 1000 that does not get the favor of the purists of the brand. Grab it before it'll be gone.

Yes! The Zero is all a modern Panerai should be. Luminor case, sausage dial (love the logo) manual wind, roots with the company's history.

For many Paneristis, Base is ACE and ZERO is the HERO. Go for it! Pre-owned or new will both be fine as long as the price is right.

We're not supposed to discuss prices on here, right?

And am I nuts for preferring the original ETA movement over the newer in house ones? Nearest botique is over three hours away, and I'm thinking a few local greybeards should be able to handle most servicing rather than ship it off and wait for several weeks.

The zero is the best! I have owned 3 of them. I just had to have mine serviced recently, and took it to my non-AD watchmaker, and it cost $138 and only took a day...the ETA movement is great!
Get it.

Late serial PAM 000 do trade close to retail...which is not surprising considering this is the most FIRM Panerai in terms of resale and it's the last in line...followed by the dreadful Pam1000, that really is an absolute abomination...

With any Pam 000 get them with full box and papers with everything correct and learn the watch really well because fakes are rampant and unfortunately they are quite deceptive...

So...green light Get it.

$2950 from the original owner, 3 years old, looks to be in good condition except for one fair ding on the bezel by the six o'clock.

If it wasn't a complete set including box and papers AND original receipt from Wempe I don't think I'd been brave enough to do it. For some reason, the fact that the guy's including the original purchase receipt and invoice gives me a little more confidence. Am I wrong to believe this? Thanks.

Should arrive on Tuesday.

Am I right in assuming the invoice and receipt, in addition to the box and papers, are good indicators of authenticity?

I've also been told the nicks and scratches are a good sign that the watch is legit and has actually been worn in the wild and is better than an alleged three year old watch that is perfectly pristine. Serial number indicates the watch was made in 2013, and sales receipt shows purchase in early 2014.

Sorry, I'm being a little paranoid. Thanks.

Not to be rude, but if a watch can be faked, don't you think a receipt can? I have seen tons of fake boxes being sold.
If the watch is real, it's real...forget the other stuff. If you are not confident enough in the seller or your ability to tell...have it authenticated.

If you're unsure, it's worth it. By the way...I have seen legit zeros trading at this price recently, so the price alone should not be a red flag

????? Don't know what this means, excuse me for being thick.

Tried with a couple of my graybeard watch repair folks, both said no can do. Leaves one other guy left who is not open until Wednesday. May have to unscrew the case tomorrow and snap a few pics.

I really had a good feeling dealing with the guy, he was even communicating after the purchase. No iffy stories, he clearly stated HE was the one who bought it, where and when he bought it from, and why he was selling it (Working stiff trying to raise cash for MBA tuition). Listing said it was guaranteed to be authentic so PayPal protection should apply. He even put it in the post the same day-Saturday-because he was having to go out of town for his job on Monday and didn't want to delay. Decent e-bay history consistent with an occasional personal seller and buyer. I can usually smell a rat on Craigslist: gift from ex-girlfriend, willed to me by my Dad/Uncle/Mentor, estate sale find, found in a box in the attic, etc., but didn't have any of that here. It's either legit or he's a criminal mastermind who thought of everything.
Having read and heard so many times, 'box and papers, box and papers, box and papers', I figured that with all that AND original receipt and invoice, I was golden.

Besides the movement picture, I'll test how well it winds compared to a legit 6497 movement, how solid the guard lever is at 45 degrees, and how long the lume lasts after charging.

Well, screw me running....

^^sorry, thought I was pretty clear.
I mean if you are unsure if it is real, it's worth a few hour drive.
I will ask again, not just to you but to anyone, what in the world do papers in a box have to do with authenticity? The watch is either real or it isn't, has nothing to do with box and papers.
