Sorry terrible pic but i have tried so hard to get a shot of the lume.

The blue on the white milgauss looks magnificent and the Lume on the GMT IIC is very bright

How long does the lume last, Chris? Any chances of posting pics when first in darkness, then a few hours later, then eight hours later?

Nice picture. It looks like you Milgauss may be easier to read in the dark because of the white dial. Which is easier to read in the dark, your GMT or your Milgauss?

Buy a tripod sized to work with your camera, and use the self timer to trip the camera without your hands introducing shake & blurry images. Compact digital cameras can use the pocket ones that don't cost much. If you used a camera phone, well, that's probably as good as its going to get.

I don't really know, but i will take another pic in say 4 to 5 hours and stick it up ( going out in 10 mins)

Thanks for the advice. i used a compact 8 megapixel digtal camera. it should be able to do it, i think it is just me- but i am learning

Good pics Toph - have tried similar with my compact with same result, just a wee bit shakey. I guess like Jocke said I'd better get a tripod or stop trying to self wind while taking a pic!!!

Love the light blue on the Milgauss - didn't realise that they had a different lume. Very cool.

ok i am lying. the Lume had gone

- I had only held it under a lamp for 30 seconds each, then took the pics and then put them back in the box.
So after all your encouragement/sympathy of my first attempt I think i have managed to get two better shots (no tripod either and i thought about the viagra, but maybe another day)

Chris,

If you want better results, let there be some natural light around you. Use "Macro" mode on the camera - no flash!!

Place the watch on its side, then place camera opposite watch at a distance of about 3 inches and click. If you can keep the camera rock steady by placing it on a solid object, you will get sharp, clear pics in "macro" mode.

Try it and good luck - JJ

PS: Expose the watch to a very strong light source for one minute or so before attempting any of the above.

You can get some really misleading results about lume if you do not take the time factor into account. Unfortunately, I do not have a suitable camera for taking watch photos. You will need to take my word for the following, or not. Your choice.

I have an OP no date with the original tritium dial that I purchased in 1971. The tritium is long gone, I imagine, but the phosphorescence is still there. If I shine a strong flashlight beam on the watch dial for a minute, and take the watch into a dark room, the hands and dots on the dial shine brilliantly. This lasts for a minute or so. Then darkness.

It's quite a difference when I put my Sub LV with maxi dial next to my SD. The LV's lume is much brighter but both died out around the same time....not very long lasting atl all.

To test the lume on the watch(s)are you putting it into the sunlight for a period of time and then a dark environment or using some other light source to test it? I have always wanted to check this on my watches but never have been able to figure out the best way to do it.....

Hi, unfortunately in Glasgow we have not had any direct sunlight for a week- it rains alot.
This is quite hard to explain- I just used a lamp but it is bulb in a cylinder shaped glass surround with an open top. The bulb sits at the bottom, so i just put my watches on the table and turned the lamp upside down and put the lamp over the top of it for a minute
