Vintage or New? Sub or GMT? Creative or Crazy?
Hi again everyone,
Need expert advise again please. Is this feasible? A 16610(90's or early 00's so that it still has lug holes), fitted with a 16800 dial(I have a 1979 matte dial which is the year of my birth), and then I get an LV,Pepsi and Coke bezels for swapping(will all these bezels fit?). I was thinking that with this set up, I would get the benefit of technological advancement but with a vintage touch. And then I could play around with the bezel inserts. I hope I did not offend the sub and gmt enthusiasts. I love both watches that's why this idea crossed my mind. Thank you and Best Regards! |

Umm - I personally would be *ok* (but only just) with the dial swap, and I would be fine with the LV bezel.
I absolutely draw the line putting a GMT bezel on a sub though. Even of it does fit (dunno if it will) it's non functional therefore not acceptable to me. I liken it to putting a Turbo badge on a non-turbocharged car...just because it looks cool. Rubs me the wrong way entirely. Gives me the heebie-jeebies even.

I think the feet are different on your 16800 dial vs a 16610 so the dial will not fit, I could be wrong though. Aside from that, you are creating what most here would call a "frankenwatch". Granted it is your watch and you can change it all back, but why not just go with a 16800? Seems like the more logical choice.

Mike was kind enough to answer a question before re the 16800 matte dial that it can be fitted to a 16610.
The reason why I'm going for the 16610 is bec of it having the better movement and the better steel quality than the 16800. But I want the touch of a 1979 in this watch. I hope I'm making sense so far. Pls feel free to correct me for I am new to all these. Now with regards to the bezel,do you guys think that the LV and GMT bezels would fit? Thanks again! |
