Baselworld AD event tonight- impressions from a smaller-wristed Rolex enthusiast

Hey TRF family,

My AD hosted a Baselworld 2017 Rolex event tonight and while I know a few others have posted their experience and opinions, I thought I would share mine as well and of course some pics on my 6.685 inch wrists.

The event itself was very nice and classy, well-catered from a local restaurant of high repute, with hand-passed hors d'oeuvres and mini deserts, as well as some creative and tasty cocktails (and champagne). I spent most of my time chatting with the AD owner, a Rolex rep, my saleswoman, and of course ogling rolex's new offerings on display.

Pricing aside, my absolute favorite was the white gold Daytona with silver dial, on oysfeflex. I own the white dial DaytonaC, which has quickly become my favorite Rolex, but this new Daytona was out of this world. As has been discussed on TRF, it is a tad larger than the steel version , in a good way, and the curve of the lugs is just so nice as it meets the oysteflex strap, which feels amazing against the skin of my wrist. And the color and contrast of the dial is mesmerizing.

On to the sea dweller. I was certain that this was going to feel huge and bloated on my small wrist, particularly since the SubC already feels a bit large on me. But I was wrong! The proportions of the SD43 (or sd50?) are spot on. The way the lugs are thin and curved as they meet the wider 22mm (I think) bracelet is brilliant and in my opinion was how the SubC should have been designed. While a thick watch, it is not outrageously tall on the wrist. What a pleasant surprise!

Next, the DJ41. I recently acquired an out of production 36mm DJ (see an earlier post of mine), and was never a fan of the DJII, so was curious how this new DJ would wear. I think Rolex did a great job with this one. It looks totally sleek and thinned out compared to the DJ2 -- it's like the DJ went on a diet and hit the gym for a year, and the DJ41 is the result - thinner stick markers, thinner lugs, and increased fluting around the same sized bezel (fluted version) look phenomenal. For me, the jubilee bracelet made this piece near perfect. On an oyster, it still seemed just a tad big (lug to lug) for my sized wrist. But on the jubilee, with the way the bracelet conforms to the curves of the wrist, it felt like a sublime match. Regarding colors of dials, I think I favored the silver over the blue, and the blue over the rhodium.

I'm not a huge skydweller fan in general , so didn't snap any pics.

As I left , I was handed a nice Rolex hat made
of that nice lightweight sporty material.

It was a great night overall!
Thanks for reading, and hope you enjoyed this enthusiast's impressions and some
hopefully decent iPhone pics.

Nice report from event. WG Daytona really looks very well on your wrist. In my opinion, SD43 and DJ41 look a bit too bulky for you.

Your report was very thorough! I personally really liked the Skydweller. The complication is so interesting and the blue dial is killer.

Very cool ...that rhodium dial DJ is stunning, anyone know if that is available with a fluted bezel or smooth only ?

Very nice pics, thanks for sharing. I agree that the SD43 looks nice on you, better than I expected for a sub 7 inch wrist.

6.685? Just 3 decimal points? Can't you be a bit more specific ?

For your dutiful reporting, Rolex should send you more than a hat. :) Nice job and thanks for filling us in. That Daytona does look great. I'm quickly becoming the world's biggest non-Daytona fan, Daytona fan. I even have one that I don't wear.

Thanks for posting the skydweller pic, I knew someone would nail me for not doing so! Between the black and blue dials, the blue definitely looked more stunning.

You're welcome! It's growing on me too, much more after seeing it. On my 2 year or so horizon, may end up deciding between this one vs a PP 5711, priced approx $4k less than the wg Daytona
