Buying advice re: TT Daytona in the U.K.

A mate of mine is looking to buy ref. 116503, steel/YG with diamond hour markers, list price £13850. He's leaning towards pre-owned because of the depreciation on a brand new watch but hasn't ruled out buying from an AD.

The question is, what is a realistic price to try to haggle a dealer down to on this reference?

I'd definitely not go the AD route on any TT piece. Find a new, or next to new one through a trusted seller, with the depreciation/discount already in place. I know that didn't answer your question specifically, but if you get a TT from an AD, it's like buying a new car off the lot...it depreciates significantly, very quickly. Unless you can make the same deal at the AD, as from a trusted seller.

Best to go preowned, ADs won't give more than 10% nowadays.

Preowned unworn I recently purchased this very Watch from a Jewellers in the UK a Daytona 116503 Classic White Dial with Gold Sub Dials & it is an amazing piece. I got it for 1,190 British Pounds cheaper than an AD but it doesn't have Diamond hour markers. I especially flew to the north of England to pick it up in person & I wasn't disappointed. If your in the market for this Watch I advise you check out Iconic Watches in Blackburn UK. If they haven't got the Model you are looking for they will source it. I have purchased two Rolexes from them & am very happy & saved a lot of money

By unworn I mean with all it's protective seals. With Rolex Warranty Card stamped signed & dated by an AD in Europe & it won't be older than 2016 as this is when the serial number changed from 116523 to 116503 & all accessories

He's in the UK. Given the GBP - USD exchange rate, buying a TT from a trusted seller would be more expensive than buying a full PM back in the UK.

OP, visit several ADs and see what they can offer if you buy 'now'. As Neil has said, it's easy to get more than 10% in the UK, but 'don't ask don't get'. Another thing your mate might want to try is book a cheap flight from Heathrow, specifically T5, and pick one up at duty free. Obviously, call ahead and see if they have stock first.

Good luck.
