Uk to usa = new daytona

Flying out of the uk for a special birthday in the states in about 8 days.I have been trying for a daytona for a while but no chance in the uk.Decided to make a few calls to ad s close to where we are staying and to my amazement have just paid for a new 116500 in black , now awaiting my pick up ,over £1000 more than uk retail, but not available here so very pleased is an understatement , can't wait for the flight , will post pics when on my wrist , very very happy.

That's remarkable. Where are you heading in the US? Somewhere particularly remote?

I'll probably be shot but I don't think anybody should pay taxed to bring back a watch.

I wonder if you worry about paying tax on your watch, what do you do for a living? Human rights activists... no doubt!!

I've worn my watches through customs countless times and not once did they ask whether I purchased it while on my trip. Not advocating the practice, but it doesn't seem very difficult if you ship the box back

not having the box and receipt on you are no brainers if you are doing that. Its still illegal though. To each their own, i just don't advocate doing anything illegal (on a public forum).

Congrats on the purchase! Key is to get a connecting flight through Heathrow onto a domestic on your return if you are really worried, you'll never go through customs.

20% VAT + import tax payable, and always best to declare as the consequences for not declaring aren't worth it.

I often wonder if the people who advocate not paying tax also advocate not using the NHS, not using state schools for education, not using the roads, and not using anything else which is financed through taxation? For those readers who know the UK, what are the current states of the likes of the NHS, education and the road systems? Perhaps if more people put in and less people took out without making their fair contributions the county wouldn't be in it's current state!

At the risk of upsetting some, surely if you can afford to pay thousands of pounds, or dollars, or whichever currency you use to buy a watch, to can afford to pay tax which you or someone else close to you will rely on in the future.

I don't carry any political cards but I do like the idea of having an NHS, emergency services, state education, state pensions, little things like these which taxation pays for.

I'm in the position of being able to contribute to things like these and I don't mind doing so. Obviously some others take a different view.

OP I hope you enjoy your new Daytona, I think they are really nice watches and I'm sure that buying one will help make your special birthday even more memorable. Congratulations and Happy Birthday

On the practical side, getting afoul of the tax/immigrations people isn't a good idea, especially if you travel Internationally a lot. You forfeit the goods and get to pay the tax anyway. Your name gets put on a watch (no pun intended) list and you get "special" treatment every time you go through Customs.

I have to agree, I like all of these, nearly as much as all the people who regularly take advantage of them having paid no taxes....full stop.

I also wonder if some of the large multi national companies who operate in the UK paid their fair share of taxes, if these said services would be able to operate on larger budgets !!

OP...well done on a nice find. Enjoy your watch and trip

If you do decide to return with the watch on the wrist and without the box and papers on you, make sure you do not pay for the watch by credit card.

Customs, have a sneaky little arrangement with UK credit card companies and customs ask a very simple question - did your client spent any money in a jeweller in the last few days whilst abroad. The answer will arrive in seconds.
