Daytona Steel in AD Window

Evening all

Think I missed an opportunity today - was in Vevey Switzerland with the kids and walked past the AD and they had a Daytona in the window.

Just glanced at it thinking it was the WG but only when I had got back home that I realised it was the steel, white-faced version and it was at retail price - never really looked at a Daytona as an option (not a fan of chronographs) but......

Bugger!

I bet Chad is right and they wouldn't have sold it to you unless you bought a PM or are one of their VIPs. I saw one in Germany and the AD said it was "sold". This AD also had a BLNR and LVc in the case that were not for sale either.
My theory is that the ADs sit on these pieces until they get a call from a VIP or find someone who is willing to buy a PM piece on the spot to earn the privilege of buying a SS Daytona.

I am not sure but I think that there may also
be reserved watches in display windows.

They probably put it there and offer to sell you it alongside a gold piece at full retail.

It was the ceramic I think (there was a 'new' marker next to it) and it wasn't the white gold one but, of course, it may have been reserved...was back too late to ring - may try tomorrow but not holding out much hope

The price was on it which was why I thought it was for sale but I think that actually makes me dumber as it was in at CHF11-12000....my only excuse was the kids were distracting me

Ah well....nice to have seen one in the flesh and I can't really afford it to be honest

Happy with my subc.....in fact, more than happy!

Just add this particular AD seem to have some of the rarer models occasionally available...I went there when looking for my first purchase and they had an LV and BLNR there to buy but neither did it for me (although they are spectacular watches)

ahh well, it doesn't matter though....beautiful day out on the boat on the lake in glorious weather, nosing at other people's watches.

My b-i-l has a GMT Iic, saw a couple of two tone subs, a PP Nautilus and a few DJ......

Okay guys, excuse the rookie question. I am new to this watch world, but why are the stainless steel Daytonas so sought after? It seems like they're far more sought after than other more expensive Daytonas. And more sought after than most other non-limited and non-anniversary Rolex models. Why is that, if I may ask? Thank you.

I think 'passed on it' gives me far too much credit for an active decision

Noticed it, walked by, saw the price and carried on without registering......as has been said though it was probably reserved anyway (I hope)

I wouldn't worry too much, it was probably just for window display/"reserved"
