I was wondering what's the history with Movado regarding their vintage pieces? Did they actually make quality stuff? I'm asking because Hodinkee has a Movado on their website for quite a pretty penny for the price of a new/used Rolex.

Movado has had some good stuff. It was in partnership with Zenith for awhile as well, had the same chronograph movement that was used in the Daytona.
But I would say that is more than double what is a realistic price for that watch.

They’re taking the piss with that price – avoid like the plague, if you’ve any sense at all.
The sensible money is not on Movados, but Ebel 1911s and Modulars.

Definitely wouldn't buy it in a million years. Just curious on the watch itself and the movement

My perception is that the M95 movement is well thought of.
Unusual in that you use the bottom pusher to engage the chronograph.
But, typically these sell in the $2,000-3,000 range.

Assuming you’re asking me rather than yourself, then it’s not about whether I like it or not, but the OP, as an alternative to the 35mm Movado he was asking about.
I thought there was quite an interesting historical backstory to the Modulor and 1911, which may prove appealing, and at a much lesser cost – so a win-win, if the aesthetics were acceptable.
