Tile floor claims another one

Wife dropped her 10-year anniversary present, an Oyster Datejust, on the travertine floor Saturday night. Sapphire shards are loose in there, looks like it jammed the minute hand. I pulled the crown out as soon as I noticed the crack, unfortunately it was a good 15 or 20 minutes after she had dropped it. Taking it in to my local authorized dealer tomorrow. Poor girl was devastated...she said, "This is why I can't have nice things." I'll get it fixed up good as new for her.

Send it to abc watchwerks in LA. They are awesome, quick, and will make it look brand new.

Tell her not to beat herself up over it. It happens. It will get fixed as good as new.

One thing I learned the hard way, never, never take them off in the bathroom.

Be sure to let us see the after shots.

Thanks for the kind words. When we took it in for sizing at our local AD, Robert Wesley Jewelers, the very kind gentleman told her to enjoy it and wear it and not worry about it because the sapphire crystal is nearly indestructible. He said to just watch out for tile floors because a drop on tile will shatter the crystal!

looks like the case escaped damage , at the end of the day its only a watch , if she had tripped or fallen it would have been much worse ,,, things happen , its an easy fix.

Easy and cheap fix. Rolex won’t hang up the glove so easily.

Nothing to worry about, it's only a watch which can be easily fixed. Cheer your wife up and make sure she doesn't lose sight of herself.

Sorry to see. Things happen. Part of life.

Tell her this is why she deserves to have two, so while one is in service/repair, she can wear the second one.

Things do happen.
That's life.

She can't say she wasn't warned though.
It's incumbent upon us all to learn from our mistakes and evaluate the lessons learnt.
I have always told my wife not to take her watch off over tile floors or other hard surfaces where ever possible. Preferably over the bed or lounge and then relocate as required.

As my Granddad used to say.
There's no experience like the experience you pay for.

If the op can swing it, it would be a stellar move!
Otherwise, a short wait. No harm done.

Another vote for ABC from me. I dropped my Speedmaster Pro dial first directly onto concrete and cracked the crystal. ABC had it fixed up and back in my possession looking new again within a couple weeks. They even aligned the Omega logo in the crystal to the correct orientation to (which, surprisingly, Omega didnt seem to bother with when the watch was built). This included checking out the movement and hand adjustment as the chrono hand was snagging on the minute hand after the drop.

Excellent communication the entire time and fair pricing on top of it. ABC will always have my business.
