Speedmaster Grinding

i have noticed my speedmaster is making a weird sound from inside when i move my wrist around.

When i shake my wrist lightly i hear like a shaking noise and the watch vibrates a little bit. NOT like something is rattling inside but more like the parts inside are rubbing or are loose or something is unbalanced. It might last 2 seconds and then it goes away. It caught me by surprise because i could hear it without holding the watch up to my ear and the vibration was fairly strong that it was very noticeable.

The watch is running just fine and is fully functional.I dont know if this is normal or there is a problem. Can any one confirm? I haven't been wearing a mechanical watch for long so this might be normal.

I hear the same thing when my SMP winds. Especially the grinding sound. It's never seemed to be a problem and the watch is still keeping perfect time.

That is quite normal the movement is a modified Valjoux 7750/51.Nothing to worry about and on my speedmaster you can feel the rotor winding. Its mainly because all watches based on the Valjoux 7750/51 only wind in one direction

Wow, what a big difference between that and my Sub. I can not hear or feel anything on my Sub. I constantly hear the rotor winding if i make a quick movement on the speedmaster.

thanks for the info guys!

Its just one of the idiosyncrasies of the Valjoux movement, you will find that about 80% of all Swiss or European based Chronographs. Will be based on the Valjoux 7750,and even Rolex used a manual 17 jewel Valjoux in the 60s-80s

My JLC does the same thing - not "grinding" but I can certainly hear the winding when I move my arm. It's kind of a nice reminder that I'm wearing a mechanical when I move my arm anywhere near my face and hear the rotor moving.

Funny, when I turn my head from side to side, my neck makes that same sound.
