Rolex not hard to beat?

I'm just going to leave this here for discussion.

It's probably written by the same people who think we're just a few years away from airliners without pilots and planes flying without air traffic control. These guys have just no idea what they're talking about.

I thought Rolex didn't release sales numbers... where does $4.5B come from? How does he have the revenues but guesses on average price and number of pieces sold?

And if they sell 1M watches a year (seems to be the consensus here at least) Then it would be $8B at $8000 average.

Fishy...

I see more Fords than Porsches, I guess that means Ford is the better product (no offense to Ford owners)

Stupid article written by an ignoramus. You cannot compare the iWatch (or whatever its called) with a mechanical wristwatch like a Rolex or an Omega. The iThing tells time almost as an afterthought - its main function is as an extension of an individuals iphone. A mechanical watch is about history, heritage, the desire to own a small precision mechanical device. The existence of the iWhatsit is not going to hurt Rolex or Omega - different markets and different needs. The only similarity is that both are worn on the wrist.

"All you have to do is produce a better, cheaper product that millions of people will want to use."

All you have to do to be a millionaire is make a million dollars....statements like this...

plus apples(haha, get it) to oranges. it should be more compared with cellphone cells or computers in my opinion, it just so happens that you wear it on your wrist.

I already regret people being able to call me any time, and regret the good old days where you had an answering mashine at home and called people back, and I am only 46, the first mobiles were when I was 22, so no way for me. But Rolex easy to beat? Sure, AP, PP, and a whole bunch of others...

Down here in S Florida, we were lucky and got our power back within a few days. Others are looking at slogging it out in the heat for another week or two.

Mechanical watches are a beautiful thing, especially when you're technology is nothing more than a paper weight.

It's a computer with a watch interface selection not a watch. Our children gifted one to me for Father's Day which was returned. I am not charging a "watch" the way I have to do a notebook or iPad.

The author is a real

He criticizes Rolex, Omega, and Cartier, but hardly explains the real situation.

Apple watches are disposable and sell typically in the hundreds of $ range. Rolex watches sell in the thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars range.

There is not really a "barrier to entry" on an Apple watch. It really only takes a few gift cards from your birthday to purchase. This opens the Apple "smart" watch up to millions of purchasers, especially incremental in developing markets.

Very poorly written and very poor all-around analysis.
