Started out at 5:30am in order to catch the Megabus to London at 6am. It was damp & cold, thought to myself, "is this going to be a miserable experience" but as we go closer to London, the skies started to clear. Arrived at Victoria bus station at 9:30am, so proceeded to Victoria Underground, stopping off at Wetherspoons for a farmhouse breakfast and coffee.

Caught the tube to Green Park nr Piccadilly and proceeded towards the Burlington Arcade. Saw the Deepsea in the flesh for the first time. here's my thoughts about it. On first glance I thought, "wow what a watch" the writing under the crystal is quite neat and not as prominent as photos might suggest. The thickness of the case is unbelievable. I liked the material used for the bezel insert and also the flush, shaped crystal, plus the Clasp is an engineers dream. The watch does ooze quality. The salesman told me that most seasoned Rolex owners sniff their noses up at it, but a lot of Pan wearers seem to be coming into the Rolex fold becuase of the Deepsea. Now whilst I was holding the watch, I was surprised on how good it looked, that was until I tried it on. Looking at the watch face on, it looked good, Rolex had still maintained that "Rolex look" we all love, however turn the watch to the side, and the watch is simply to thick and blockish. The strap is not in proportion to the watch. it simply does not look right. Also the watch seemed top heavy. I think if they beefed up the bracelet it might look better.
In summary, the DS is not for me. By the way David Duggan only wanted £7500 for it.
Next I went to the Omega Vintage shop, very pricey but some lovely pieces.
Very disappointed with the dedicated Rolex boutique. went to Watches of Switzerland Oxford Street, hardly anything in any of the cases,only to find out that on Saturday, they had a smash and grab at 11:30 in the morning, a couple of men on scooters with hammers, smashed the display cases, wiped out the Patek Phillipe, Cartier and Rolex stock on display. No-one hurt though. Went to the new dedicated Casio store, very interesting, also went to Selfridges watch dept and Gray antique market then finally went to St James RSC, tried the Jubilee on my DJ, did not like it, so stuck with Oyster. The young lady said to me, actually, I prefer the Oyster myself, she was good looking and had a lovely smile so I readily agreed.

i have lots of goodies which i will be popping into the sales corner in due course, so keep your eyes open, gotta pay for my trip somehow.

Too bad about WOS.

We stopped by during the GTG and the PP's were very nice indeed.

Yikes! I wondered why the shop was closed and the windows boarded up this week. I tried on a Patek (5127r) in that shop on the Friday - I guess it's not there anymore...

There's been a hell of a lot of smash n grab in London jewellers recently.

Fantastic report and pictures, thanks for sharing. Thanks as well for your thoughts on the Deepsea, specifically how Panerai wearers are liking it. Thats something that Ive been wondering for a while now, that Rolex made it more for potential customers who were not Rolex fans, but rather made the Deepsea for fans of other "big" watches.

I agree with you that the writing on the chapter ring is not as prominent 'in the flesh' as it is in photos. I was pleasantly surprised. Why, it's almost modest compared to the size of the watch. And the lume is an interesting blueish-green.

I think the DS isn't photogenic at all. It looks great in the flesh & is surprisingly light on the wrist.

Its huge in terms of thickness not diameter. When wearing the watch, i felt the bracelet needed to be beefed up in terms of thickness and width
