Pricing is out of control... real or...
Is the actual selling prices much lower? For example I'm looking at govberg pre owned and they have a 16610LV asking 13,950. They have a BLNR asking $1k about retail. There is lots of talk of the current LV being sold at a premium... not to mention the asking prices for SS sky dwellers... or the prices of five digit Pepsi/coke GMT. What's going on? I can maybe understand the pieces no longer in production in great condition having a premium but a used BLNR asking over list? Does govberg have to pay for that new office they opened and are they getting "creative" with these prices or are these starting points?
Same goes for Sky D. Asking price is around 21k... are they actually moving/going to move?! Market just seems crazy right now! What is driving these prices on a good that isn't necessarily "rare" And is it going to have a hard correction a la Porsche 911R after the release of GT3 with touring package? |

I'm not sure those are real prices to be honest. I know of a pre owned BLNR, few months old that isn't that price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Prices seem pretty crazy to me also. I've seen the same upward trend you have described.

Don't pay 1K over retail for a BLNR. Wempe on Fifth Ave in NYC sells them for retail without a waiting list. I randomly called them and they held the Batman for me for 24 hours. I'm sure for other trendy watches like hulks, it'll be the same deal there.
I think if you look around enough, at least stateside, you can find what you need at retail (except SS c Daytona) |

It's nonsense. Your senses are correct.
Im a fan of Govberg for new pieces but their preowned prices are frankly laughable. The whole watch market is a mudslide if you ask a me. A few houses still on the cliff and sellers have priced in the rarity of the view.

Govberg is a steaming pile of sh!t if you're looking at anything that's pre-owned. Just stick to Trusted Sellers here...much better pricing, even if it takes them a week or two to source what you want.

I also have to laugh when I go into tourneau and I ask "how much is that late 90's Submariner without papers"?

Seems like the Subs have jumped in the past 3-4 months, no? I remember Sub Dates running mid 5s, and now SubND are that much and SubD are running over 6k...

I feel like 6 months ago brand new 114060s were offered by trusted sellers for $6500-6750 and now I see some at full MSRP or even $50 higher than retail.
Same with the 116610LV. Used to see it for a few hundred under MSRP and now it's a few hundred over MSRP. Is there seasonality in the demand? What could be causing a large price swing in a relatively short time period? |

I'm seeing SS SkyD going for 4 to 5 thousand over the Rolex price of $16995. That's crazy. I'll wait to buy it on the grey market...

What y'all are observing is all very logical. The Dow and S&P indices are making all-time highs.....stands to reason prices for luxury goods are following suit.

Call around to Rolex ADs and in a few weeks you can have a BLNR or LV Sub-C for retail. Were not talking about Ceramic Daytona here.

If one takes their pricing cues from this and another similar source then yeah you're correct.
Call their bluff. Call an AD. Call it crazy. Just don't call it quits and pay these inflated prices.

Prices in the industry as a whole are crazy. The Swiss wonder why sales are in the dump, but all you have to do is look at the prices in an AD or boutique. None of it makes sense.
I haven't been in the market to buy in some time, but I've had a few non-WIS friends ask me for advice. I tell them that if you pay near MSRP for anything other than Rolex or PP, then you're crazy. Maybe throw AP in that group, not really sure. |

A couple of months ago, most local ad's had plenty of popular stainless sports models. Then all of a sudden nothing. Maybe it was folks on summer vacation here doing most of the buying? Who knows? |

This kettle is burning so hot with no safety valve. It's amazing how pro-sellers defend and "up" the hype of their watches. "Firm price rise year by year for this model", "rare" (on a date sub) etc... I'm sure if these types of advertisements for some other products, say cars, real estate or stocks/bonds would be the same a law-suit would soon follow.

Could it be that production has stopped in August, like it does every year during the vacances horlogères, and that supply has hence temporarily dried up a little? I feel that prices tend to pick up in the end of August/September, only to die down again ahead of the spring's watch fairs.
