Picked up my baby today, still sad though !!

Hi all,

I picked up my GMT Master 2 16710 Y Serial from the Rolex service centre in Bexley today after its thorough strip down and service. Nine weeks its been away and i was very pleased to get it back today. On the other hand, it has to make way and free up some funds for a new Sub 16613 bi metal bluesy.

So today i am glad to get it safely home but not looking forward to letting it go,but needs must.

Unfortunately, the wife has said i cannot have both

Has anybody sacrificed a watch they love only to get a more expensive model ??

No way. I've got my LV today. This is a watch I really wanted for 5 years. This is true love,I will never part from it.
I'm not saying I will be my last watch,absolutely not,but it will stay with me forever,even if it will have to just sit in the safe someday.

I have sold one watch to buy another that I liked more! Are you buying new or pre-owned? I have seen some nice pre-owned TT Blue subs that look great for mid $5K USD.

Hi Darren,

To answer your question directly.........No I have never sold a watch that I really loved to make way for another.I just couldn't do it

Why dont you keep it and get the other one over a time period that suits you via interest free credit....Especially now the Bank of England have cut the base rate by 1.5 % today

I am not aware of a Rolex service centre in Bexley??

Presume this is an independent watchmaker - if so, what is his name and is he any good?

Rolex Service Centre in Bexley is the main site for all Rolex servicing done in the UK.Excellent standards and excellent service.Soon to move to bigger and more high tech premises with more watchmakers so the turnaround time on a service should be cut by at least 2 to 3 weeks

Hi

I can't believe I didn't know about this.

I live in Kent and recently sent my Explorer up to the RSC in St James Square for a warranty repair. So you're saying I could have simply driven the Expy up to Bexley, and had the same work done with the same guarantee?

You learn something amazing on this sit every day!

Jim,

Hi Darren,

Just got my 14060M sub back a few weeks ago (about 10 weeks for the service).

Came back looking like new too.I sent my 16710 GMT in to them back in 2006 and that came back looking 100% also.

I get mine done every 10 years as I dont wear them everyday so the next one to go in will be the expy 1 in 2016 followed by the SD in 2018.....gives me plenty of time to save up though.

Think how happy you will be the next time you need the services of Rolex Bexley.....Now you'll know what to do.

I have no choice here in Devon (dont fancy the long,long drive)so I use my local AD in Somerset.....Same results though

There is a standard service price for the GMT,Subbie and Explorer of £285.00 inc VAT. Thats Bexleys prices anyway.

Thanks for the info Darren and Mr Sandman............. and sorry to have hi-jacked your thread!

But to answer your original question, I don't think I could sacrifice my Explorer only to get a more expensive model. Even though I have only owned it since August (as my first brand new Rolex purchase) and it has already been back to the RSC to have its hour hand re-aligned(!), I still love it to bits.

Guess I will just have to save up from scrtach if I really want that Milgauss

A little off point but I only had that problem with cars - wife made me sell my prestine 81 Mercedes 380SL when I got my 67 Dino Spyder. Dino was a project while the 380SL was like it just came off the show room floor. I regret selling the 380SL even though I love the Spyder and it has been 5 years. Oh well.

Yes, I traded my GMT II for a TT Sub. because I could not have both. I would love a GMT II and miss it but that's because I love the GMT and the Sub almost as much. In the end I decided the gears on the Sub had less slack, I much preferred the fliplock and I like the fact it sits higher on the wrist. It also has one less complication to go wrong. But if I ever buy another Rolex it will be a GMT II. The TT Sub is gorgeous. Sporty, dressy, elegant, although I prefer it in black, I like both.

I just got my 8.4 M 16750 back from Bexley service - took over 12 weeks - man what a rough ride that was.
