When I was choosing between the Sub & SD, the cyclops was the main reason I chose the SD, now it no longer bothers me. Should be an interesting post though!

A cyclops is what makes a watch called a rolex IMO
It is a trademark

I personally think it looks good on some models and not so good on others. I used to really dislike it but I don't mind it on my GMT, I actually like it to be honest. When I look at a sub and a sub date, I think the sub looks better due to no cyclops. I guess I could go either way on this one.

Like JJ says, it's the Rolex trade mark - I wouldn't be without it.
Although if I want to set the time precisely I do wait until the minute hand is past the cyclops.

I do not like it at all on sports models, its why I got the SD and DSSD.
I also plan on getting a second crystal without the cyclops for any other sports model I purchase (that was I can keep the original with cyclops IF I ever sell it). DJ models, Prez etc etc I like !!

I voted neutral, because my Invictas have cyclopses, but they are of a lower magnification and, while they make the date easy to see, they don't throw the balance of the dial off.
The Rolex magnification is so high that it looks weird and when the second hand goes under it, it looks like it enters a time-warp or an event-horizon, or something. I think it should be optional. Boy, ain't that the truth!

Hate them. I started with an SD, then had a sub date --- main reason I did not love that watch was the cyclops, now am back to the SD

Doesn't make any difference to me one way or the other. You can't read the date unless you're looking at virtually 90 degrees to the watch, and from that perspective its a pain in the patootie.

I initially did not like the cyclops and got an Air King. However, I know prefer it and moved up to a SS DJ. It is the mark of a Rolex.

HATED IT ... until
The biggest critic of it .. saw all others others who did the cyclops in such smarter way under the crystal etc.
then got one and realized thats what makes it an iconic watch ... |

I have 3 Rolexes without a cyclops (SD, ND Sub and Explorer 1) and 4 with cyclops (Sub Date, TT Sub, DJ and GMT II) and to me, I love them all !
The cyclops is a unique Rolex feature, which makes it's special

hate is a strong word; let's say i have an aversion for it. the cyclops is the reason why rolex has the rep of being an old man's watch.

most of mine have cyclops so the one without stands out. but I don't mind either way. Just easier to clean ones withouth the cyclop.

I think "hate" is a pretty strong word. Personally, I think it can do without it. Symmetry and all that.
