So , I’m not a flipper ... usually

Though many on here have become acquainted with
this custom unfortunately... I have not , so to speak !!!
Though I must admit and I can certainly see the
attraction to wanting something new quite often ...

So often I’ve thought of flipping , selling my beloved
Bluesy Sub C for another partner ... I.E. other Rolex
reference, mechanical watch ...

Then , I pause .................................................. .
Is this other reference (watch) really going to do it for me ?
How long before the honeymoon is over ?
Will I enjoy wearing it everyday for xxx amount of days / years ?
Will it tickle my fancy , long term ... ?
Is it mesmerizing, captivating, enthralling me to the core ???
If all these don’t tick then I may as well not flip !!! Or flop !!!

So in the short term even though I may have considered another
partner in time keeping ...
The iconic Blue Submariner still weighs heavy and stronjg in ticking all
the above ....

Next time you feel the urge , ask yourself...
Will I love it and enjoy it as much everyday as I do
with my current time keeping partner ???
If not , save your pennies for another day!!!!
There are many Delilah’s out there ...
They could become very costly if wisdom and prudence
are not applied so keep your eyes peeled and wide opened !!!

I have been in the watch game for more than 25 years and can be described as a trader or flipper. I have, from time to time, been very active and other times I will go for extended periods before I trade, sell or flip. I look at it as a hobby. Very similar to golf, tennis, hunting, fishing, sport shooting, etc. Most all hobbies cost something to participate in fees, cost of equipment and most important, TIME. Once I figured out how the watch game works I have become very good at maximizing my dollars on purchases and trades. I understand what the market is on any watch I want and do the best I can. I usually either lose a little or make a little. I have also owned some great watches that I have never intended on owning for the long haul but always wanted to own. Buy right and you can flip out and move on to the next thing you want. My goal is to own some great watches and have fun collecting. Nothing too serious.

I think the way to be a good flipper of anything, houses, cars, watches, is to not have an emotional connection or attachment to the item.

For me with watches that would be impossible.

So I'm not a flipper although I buy and sell maybe a couple a year but they always seem to be impulse buys. My main watches are kind of here to stay.

I'm not a seller. I buy what I like and it's then difficult for me to sell. Others don't have that attachment. They buy thinking of what can I sell this for. That never enters into my mind.

I am a serial flipper. I have slown down significantly, but I still flip. I just started back up again actually.

1. I have never been good at making up my mind. Flipping makes it easy to make a change without doing too much damage.
2. I think of it as a hobby, and hobbies cost money.
3. I am looking for the perfect watch. Flipping allows me to check out different models and brands.
4. Getting a new watch is fun. Flipping allows for me to get new watches often.

My most recent flip, happened just today. I really don't like spending money these days. I am trying to save as much as possible.

And I was interested in a new watch from IWC that just came out. I also just saw a Cartier that I have wanted for a long time.

I took one of my most valuable and traded for those 2. I am also getting 5k back.

I will miss the watch I am about to send off. But I will take solace in my two new watches, and the 5k which will go towards some home renovations.

I get to enjoy the process, and even get some money back.

Seems like a winning strategy.

Yes, I realize that I am losing money when I sell...but that is all part of the hobby to me.

Flipping nearly ruined my interest in watches.

Wise move Mario to keep the LB. I go in cycles with trading. There have been periods where I seem to trade a watch every week or two. I did get to try many references this way and for the most past these were mostly vintage/used watches so minimal losses and even some gains.

This last few months is the first time in a long time I have not traded or really been looking at anything. I was interested in the Sub LV and talked to a couple of my dealers about moving something for one last year, but never pulled the trigger--then the prices went way up so I am off that for now.

Pretty content these days with the collection and hope to stay that way....at least until Basel LOL

I have always been a flipper. Much for the same reasons as seth. What has been an expensive endeavor in the past has turned into a lucrative practice in the past 6 months. This wont last long.

I am with you sir, I've never flipped because all my watches have been acquired with love and desire.

I've never fallen into the temptation of selling one to buy another. If I want another watch it will have to wait until I get the funds. That waiting makes me appreciate even more the new acquisition.

I have Mario and it was my Bluesy too. I don't wear it often and thought about selling it. I'm glad I still have it because when I do wear it I still love it.

I feel the same way ..,

When it came down to the Bluesy or BLNR earlier this year
I just knew I’d miss the Sub more than the GMT!!!!
Don’t get me wrong the BLNR is still a knock out !!!
Just had too much going on at the time and it had to part ways
unfortunately...
