Legit JLC Reverso

Evening All,

Can I get any thoughts on whether this watch is legit please. I think it is. I have asked for a photo of the case back, as there's no good photo showing it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Jaeger-LeCo...19.m1438.l2649

Look forward to any comments.

Best,
TA

The watch was legit.

The seller was not.

The account had been dormant for a year, and it had been hacked.

Stolen photos, stolen copy and Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo, you've got a scam.

Reported and removed.

Morning Eelpie,

Thanks for that. One can never be too careful. Makes me damn wary of anything and anyone on ebay, unless they are a store front.

Curious, the seller had sent me additional photos via PM yesterday, including one of the case back. I also asked for a photo of the GMT feature, which he sent. Thus, I got the sense that not only was the watch legit, but that the seller was also as he reached out to me through linkedin. Although, curiously, when I asked for an additional video of the watch, he advised that the photos should be enough. If I'm trying to sell something, I'd accommodate a request like that from a seller. After all, why not?

How do you know the account had been hacked, and the seller was not legit?

Best,
TA

There had been no activity . . .

. . . for a year.

Photos and copy can be gotten anywhere, but for people to pop up out of the ground with an expensive watch after a year away smells funny.

One of the keys for me is a photo dated to confirm the info is current.

If they cannot prove possession, it's probably a moody deal.

Too often the guys on this board become transfixed with looking for flaws in a watch, when it's the circumstances of the seller that demand scrutiny:

Big feedback as a buyer but zip as a seller. No activity for a year or more.

A history of selling baby clothes or cracked marbles, but now flogging a President.

Inheriting a Sub (usually from a deceased grandfather), but wanting to dump it for a song instead of getting twice as much or more at a local pawn shop.

'Don't asked me, just look at the photos and make your own decision.'

'I don't know anything about the watch, but I won't drive across town to see if it's potentially worth $5000'.

This week I popped an automatic Datejust that showed its Hong Kong quartz movement in one of the photos, and a Day - Date with a Yacht Master bezel but no day or date apertures.

I asked the guy with the Hong Kong quartz Datejust if he thought he'd get away with it, and he ended the auction . . . but he didn't cancel the bids! He was making a run for it! Within two minutes of the premature end of the auction, eBay nullified the results.

Are these sellers willfully stupid or just so dishonest that they just want the cash?

I cannot stress this enough - look at the seller and his activities with a wary and jaundiced eye . . .

Morning Eelpie,

I owe you a pint. Did you reach out to the JLC seller to scrutinize his sale, like the HK Datejust seller?

Best,
TA

Nice work.

"Unless the seller can provide a dated photo proving possession, this must be considered a scam / hacked account."

Apparently eBay agreed as it was removed pretty smartly.

And please make that a John Courage IPA.
