Rolex to give your son/daughter as a graduation gift

As a graduation gift to my son as he's becoming a doctor, I gave him my 1st Rolex bought in 2001: A Yacht Master. He loves it. My daughter another doctor got the DJ from her mom.

Which did you give to your son/daughter or to be gifted in the near future?

That's great, you are no doubt proud and I'm sure they are great kids and future role models. My kids are young but I hope I can do the same. With 5 of them I'd better work hard in the meantime!

True story, I swear; While waiting for our flight out of Tokyo Sunday night, we were just walking through the Omega store and my 5 year-old son asks the clerk, "Rolex arimasu ka?" Earned himself an ice cream cone for that little quip.

We paid for their undergraduate in full. They did loan for their doctorate but that was to give them some responsibilities to finish up and earn their way....

After much research and lurking on TRF, I just bought my first Rolex today, a 14060M from my son’s birth year. I plan to gift it to him when he graduates college. He’s in 10th grade now, so I have a little time to enjoy it myself first....

Question for all you Rolex gifters...

Would you have thought to gift a Rolex if you didn't already have one yourself?

You might as well buy Rolex and lock it up in a safe vs putting it into a savings account with the measly interest rates these days...

Naturally, I had to translate that and this is what I got.

I thought there must have been a mistake and did it again.

Then I remembered the problem with the letter "L" in Japanese.

I gave my son an Omega Planet Ocean with the orange bezel. My daughter has 3.5 years to go. I’ll likely get her an Omega as well so it’s fair. I’ll be telling them to work hard enough to buy their own Rolexes. They can decide between the Rolexes I have when I die 40 years from now.
Or maybe when they get married.........

He should have said, "Rolex ga arimasu ka?" He's 5 and still learning grammar. Literally, it means "Are there Rolexes?", how it is understood is, "Do you have any Rolexes?".....with emphasis on Rolex.

My children are both young, but I plan to give them each the Rolex that I was wearing on the days that they were born.
