Weekend/Fun car pics....

So Seth's post got me thinking about the whole weekend/fun car syndrome. I bought my first one about seven years ago. At the time I was driving a Nissan Armada when I swung by the dealership for an oil change and saw a 370 roadster on the used showroom floor. The guy said take it for a spin while we change your oil. I did and it was done. Knowing this would "go over like a fart in Church", I told my wife I was going to buy it. She said are you completely stupid? We have three kids are they going to ride in the trunk? I then explained I'd keep the SUV and this will be a second carouse for fun. She then said, who do you think you are, a billion-dollar hedge fund manager ? Living in Louisiana and not liking hunting or fishing is quite rare so I tried to justify the second car as a replacement for the fishing boat most guys have. Made sense to me... NOT HER!! Did it anyhow and have had 3 different fun cars. So, let's post some pics of our weekend buddies......

your slight error was doing it after getting married

I took a tip from my dear dad & bought my 2dr toy BEFORE getting married

Drove it to church, first time she saw it was AFTER "I do" so no angst there

my tastes are more classic than supercar though but for the odd occasions it gets to see daylight, it's never fails to cheer me up

Sometimes a period wristpiece gets to go along for a ride too

Mine used as intended on weekend for a club drive:

Previous weekend cars:
Porsche 968ClubSport
Triumph TR8
Maserati Ghibli
Porsche 911sc Convertible

I have pictures of all the others, just too hard to try and shrink picture size.

I was looking at a car auction site recently and there was a Ferrari F350 being auctioned not far from where I live. I jokingly told my wife I was going to bid on it. She said "Sell some watches then". While owning a Ferrari is massively impractical, as much as for Investr before buying the Nissan, I was surprised at her reaction. So while I don't have a two door fun car it may be a possibility. I just have to get her past the "sell watches" mentality. Wives... jeez.

Stick with 360 or newer. Those 355s are a maintenance nightmare($$$). If you are thinking of putting a few miles on it, and then selling it prior to any service, your sale price WILL be affected by the new owner needing to do a service.

I don't have a weekend fun car. My daily driver is a Mercedes E550 Coupe though which is fairly quick and nice to go for a drive in.

Great pictures. My dad has always had coupes and convertibles. 911's, Mercedes, Jaguar, and they have all been amazing to drive.

At some point I will get something fun, but it will most likely be driven an all year round, even through the Chicago winters.. just like pops.

I guess I’m not as sophisticated as other Rolex owners around here. No V-12 with quad turbos, 1,400 bhp, paddle shifters, vibrating seats , etc .............. just good old fun pieces of iron. Three pedals, a big steering wheel, and a real gear shifter.

86 years old with ORIGINAL paint

Beautiful. Favorite car of all time 66-67 Corvette. Amazing contours on the body and big block power. Restored a bunch of vintage Corvettes back in the day when I had my shop. Sure do miss those old rides. Wife is always on me to buy another vintage Vette.
