STATE OF THE COLLECTION....and considering a flip

I haven’t made any changes to my little collection in almost two years now, but I seem to be developing an itch. I’m considering buying a DJ41 with Jubilee bracelet, fluted bezel, and white face. I’ve never owned a Jubilee, and now that it has an easylink I “feel the need”.

I reduced my collection from 6 to 4 a few years ago (with plenty of flipping along the way) and really don’t want to have more than 4 again, so I would probably sell my Explorer II. I suspect the DJ would make an interesting variation. I’ll put pictures in the next post (as soon as I’ve switched to Tapatalk), and will appreciate any opinions....

I'm thinking of a DJ41 for me next too, I'm finding the Breitling argument that all the ceramics are starting to look the same more compelling by the day. I'm not sure of the config, but don't want another oyster, but I find jubilee and fluted a bit too much, so maybe smooth. Rhodium is my top choice of dial at the mo.

I wouldn't flip the EXP2. Since you've got a BLRO, the GMT would be on the block first. Just my thoughts.

White DJ41 is hot! I'd move the Explorer since it's also a white dial.

Just curious but why did you remove the cyclops on the 116710?

I’d flip the LN as you already have the BLRO

Hi Neil. Interesting. I sort of feel that I might as well go the whole hog with the fluted bezel to go with the Jubilee, and I never really loved the smooth bezel when I had a Milgauss. The rhodium dial is gorgeous, but I know how I love a white dialled watch and the polar would be going....

My old WG DD started life with a silver dial and I couldn’t read the time!....I was much happier when I switched it to white. I’ll give the dark rhodium some more thought.

I absolutely adore my LN with its modifications....no cyclops, green date, brushed PCLs (shock, horror). It gets loads of wrist time...much more than the EXP II.

Sounds like the Explorer should be on the block then. By the way, that collection picture is a perfect representation of the difference in metal color between SS and WG for those who argue they look the same.

Clive, Don't flip your Explorer you'll regret it. Your collection looks perfect to me (Love the look of your LN too)
(sounds like you need to stay off TRF for a while )

If you need to flip I'd flip the Milgauss first.

I tried the jubilee and it just didn't work for me at all.

I love the LN. Removing the cyclops and brushing the PCLs completely scratched any itch I had for a Sub without date.

Thanks. I suspect I would use the DJ slightly differently to the sports models.

No offence taken. The Daytona simply wasn’t my cup of tea, I hardly ever wore the DD, I went off of the Milgauss, and fell very out of love with the blue on the BLNR. All four went and became two APs for a while, before I came back to my senses.

Interesting. What didn’t you like about the Jubilee?

I would flip the Black GMT for an AP RO 15400 Black or Grey but since it is modded and you love that watch so much then flip the EXP2 and think about a silver/white Royal Oak. AP would really add another dimension to your collection. I have a very similar collection.

Been there, done that. Had a black 15400 and an SS Diver.

They eventually became my BLRO.

I could not get the Jubilee to set right on my wrist. I kept shaking my wrist all the time to move it back to the right spot. I'm used to sport models and the way they sit. But then again I bought 1/2 links for my TT Sub's to get the sweet spot.

To each their own, IMHO, your old collection was more balance. It had the DD, Daytona, BLNR and Submariner. If I were you, I will rebuild it slowly by keeping the BLRO and adding the following:
- Daytona (SS Ceramic White Dial or YG with Oysterflex)
- WG DD or DateJust
- Submariner (Hulk, Blusy or Smurf)

I found that sourcing and waiting are more fun than owning the watch.

A quick glance at the four and it's the black ceramic GMT that needs to go.

As for the DJ41, I narrowed it down to silver dial or slate (Wimbledon) but then I was going TT and I suspect you're looking at SS in which case go with rhodium dial.

I chose slate in the end. Jubilee is far more comfortable than oyster and I have no issue with the bracelet shifting around my wrist.
