The worn and battered thread.. dont be shy!

A little shout out here to some of us who do not have the luxury of that perfect patina, that perfect dial, that perfectly faded insert and thick fat "unworn" case... whose watches are scruffy, dirty, worn and polished thin!

Dont be shy and here's mine!

Just loving it as it looks what a vintage can be!

Finally, something I can be a part of. I’ll put the history of this new-to-me-piece here, as I think it fits the category.

I got this watch last week from a friend, Ken Hackathorn, who is The Godfather of American Gunfighting.

This watch, which was his daily wearer, he bought new in Saigon in 1968. From that day in Vietnam, throughout his tour with US Army Special Forces, the years in between, and up until the 3rd of February this year, he wore this watch all around the world doing what men like him do.

Now it’s mine, and I’m putting my own little bit of legacy onto it. It’s going to serve as my daily wearer as well.

And it, as beautiful as it is, has some marks and scars on it from a life of making marks and scars on other things. It’s amazing. Check it out.

Worthless to some, priceless to others.

Man some REALLY good stuff within this thread! Watches being worn, living to tell a story, imagine that! Although I can appreciate "safe queens", you can't replicate the stories told by some of these fine pieces. I for one appreciate the history associated with vintage pieces. I hope to join the vintage club some day!

168000. A few nicks here and there, but it's held up well for 30 years of everyday use!

This thread kicks ass. I’d be thrilled to have any of the watches you guys have put here. I’d pick any of these over NIB any day. Congrats to everyone for having something that is truly unique and perfect to them.

This was in rotation with my other watches, however my jeweler advised me not to wear it until it was serviced. I had just informed him it hadn't been serviced since the 1970's and was still running like a charm.

Great thread! I often wonder if there is some technical method for replies involving quotes involving pictures, to reduce the 'quoted pics' to thumbnail size or something. Half the length of the thread is from replays of Graham's 1968 GMT - lovely watch but just the one set of pics was enough. BTW pretty much all my watches are the 'beat up' kind, I can't afford the really nice ones!

I honestly can't think of a more beautiful watch.

For all those asking "is it safe?", here's your definitive answer: Yes.
