Question regarding the Daytona ceramic bezel

Will the paint eventually wear on the numbers like the old steel version did ?

The engraved graduations are coated with a thin layer of platinum or gold (no paint) but I would like to know if wear with time either.

Well the first ceramic bezel from Rolex was on the YG GMT in 2005 and as yet I’ve not heard of any wear issues on these!

I have heard the large 12 o’clock triangle being prone to marking but this is only on the GMT as it’s quite an open area, the markings on the Sub and Daytona are far more protected.

I'll bet my 2c that the ceramic bezel of the Daytona will be for lifetime with all the numbers intact.

Yep unlike the previous gen being painted these are PVD applied so short of abrasion wear can’t imagine they won’t last the life of the watch.

I disagree. My GMT C is almost 10 years old and no sign of wear

If the time you're referring to is centuries...maybe. For our lifetimes, pretty sure we'll be OK.

Question regarding the Daytona ceramic bezel

The platinum deposited into the numerals/symbols engraved into the ceramic bezel is not going to wear out as readily since the numbers are quite thin.

On a GMT maybe more susceptible to wear (if any) because the numbers are wider.

“Wearing out” isn’t a likely outcome for one’s ceramic bezel insert because that was usually caused by poor polishing on the previous metal bezels in the past. Or constant brushing against fabrics like cuffs, sweaters and other jackets.

What might happen is another calamity - like shattering if your watch fell onto a hard surface, or impacted a sharp edged object while wearing your watch.

Edit: BTW, any impact strong enough to shatter or crack the ceramic insert is likely to cause some other internal damage - so a damaged insert might be the least expensive element of such an occurrence.

No, I am pretty sure all models with a ceramic bezel will not have their numbers/markings wear away. They are set down too far. My guess is the modern Rolex will look new longer than any Rolex generation before it. As Tom has shown above, his watch still looks new and I know he really uses it in some tough conditions around the race track.
