Gifted a Rolex, Can you tell what it is

Hello chaps!

I made a post in the General section but I thought i would ask the experts. I was recently gifted my Grandfathers Rolex. He was given this watch after he completed building the main hospital in Valetta, Malta.

I don't know anything about it or its value. I would like to get it checked out so when it goes in the safe it has no secrets lurking inside.

This would have been from the 1950's

on the back is and hard to see so not totally clear

hmmmm... not having much confidence in this one.

non oyster, probably cal 1220, soild gold case (9 14 or 18 carat ... probably not 18), likely redone dial (need to see higher res pictures), late 1940s or 1950s watch. In general, very wearable watch ... though not highly collectable, especially with (most likely) redone dial

Interesting. He was given it in the 1950s from what my father tells me. I know zero about its service history and no one has worn it for 40 years.

what specifically would you need photos of ?

I would like to have it serviced or at least inspected so if i wind it no damage could be caused. I would appreciate trusted recommendations.

I would be very surprised if fake. He didn't cavort with people that thought Rolexes were expensive watches then or now. Keeping a 70 foot Riva in Monaco to hold the slip kind of people....but I suppose you never know.

How does the back come off?

Well the dial is definitely refurbed, not enough photos to tell if the rest is genuine (would need to open watch & photo rest). Probably just refurbed dial

This one is from the 50s,original dial,18 jewels.very thin,made for French market

It's likely early 50's with a calibre 700. It could be 1200 series but I kind of lean more toward 700. It's got a refinished dial. it's a cool watch. I'm not where I have my old catalogues and such or I could call a reference number for you.
