Nomos and airport metal detectors

What's your experience with Nomos and airport metal detectors?

My Orion typically runs +8 sec per day, and that is fine by me. During the recent trip I walked with the watch through a metal detector at the airport. Within a few days I noticed that my watch was off by +10 minutes. I have no idea if there was anything else that could have magnetized the watch, so I blame it on the metal detector. After using a de-magnitizer, the Orion is back to the usual +8 sec/day.

I love traveling with Nomos as it is a light watch, but not sure if I'll do that again after my recent experience.

I've never seen a Nomos and had to look it up on google to see what it looks like. Its a beautiful watch. I've heard of it, but never have seen it.

I've never heard of a metal detector causing a watch to become magnetized. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen, just that I've never heard of it. I'm interested to see how many others have had a problem with metal detectors.

My first question to you is " Do you own an iPad and do you bring it along during your travels? "
If you do, that's the answer !

If you bring a magnetized watch to the brilliant Canadian watchmaker (Oh yes he makes Aero pilot watches too) and famed watch repairman, Al Jensky of Archer watches in St Thomas, Ontario, that's exactly the first question he will ask you.

I'm originally from the Omega forum, have lots of Omega's anti magnetic watches, Al is the resident consultant of the forum and topics like these are discussed so so very frequently ( I think there are over 50+ threads on magnetism alone on the OF)

Taaa....Daaa...
Your iPad actually doubles up as a fridge magnet too. The iPad contains ~10 magnets and the apple smart cover has at least 21 magnets. If I recall correctly , the total magnetic field strength measures ~ 1000 gauss

Where were you flying from??

I have never removed my watch to fly.

I have had several Nomos and my current Metro does not have this issue. But I do not travel with an iPad either. Or put my watch close to one.

I wear my watch thru screening. Many are expensive and I’m not putting it on a belt. Never set off alarm. Usually, my belt does.

Travel with iPad but without magnetic cover. Always wear my watch on me and this time I walked through a metal detector. In body scanners I never had an issue...
