I want to buy a daydate gold online and need help
Hello,
Im very new to the watch world but fell in love with gold watches after trying a few. In particular the Day Date president yellow gold. So i would very much appreciate your comments on these, as im also looking for value (or rather dont want to be a sucker) and cannot spot which ones are overpriced or any other nuances. All of these are from Chrono24 1)/rolex/day-date18038-factory-diamond-dial-bp-europe-watches--id7935447 2)/rolex/daydate--id7518769 3)/rolex/day-date--id7166012 4)/rolex/rolex-day-date-18238-fullset-1991-top-condition--id7878515 5)/rolex/day-date-ref-18038--id7980232 Thank You so much guys! |

I wouldnt lean on anyone else when purchasing a high dollar watch. I would spend a lot of time reading and understanding all the hallmarks and idiosyncrasies of the model. Then make a informed decision and try to find locally or from a very trusted seller.

My suggestion is you spend some time reading on here, looking at offerings in the trusted seller section, and asking questions. This will benefit you more than having anyone else do the homework for you.

I concur with the other members, definitely take your time to gain more knowledge.
Also if you don't really know what you're purchasing I wouldn't suggest just buying online. Why not search online for the various brick and mortar jewelry stores selling a DayDate you like, if not local book a weekend away, actually see the watch and try it on. Good luck with your search

Hey guys,
I am for sure flying in an trying them. I already did a trip to Italy to try one but it was a white display which i dont like. However ive already made the decision to buy a 10k € jubilee daydate. All of these 5 watches are in Germany so i have a trip there next weekend actually. Once again the problem is im a noob so cant really spot anything but just feel the watch on my wrist. |

Ive thought that papers are superimportant for value? as i would like the watch to have retail value also but im not looking to sell. So right now ive only filtered for watches with papers.

Help me choose between 5 18k Daydates
Hi,
Its going to be my first watch, so ive only tried a few different in the stores but quickly fell in love with the yellow gold dd. Every watch is in Germany, all should have papers, and i will go, have a look before and buy it on the spot. Please comment if any of the watches is really overpriced or any other things you notice or suggest to help me out. I can pay more as long as its of value and am planning to keep this watch for long. Right now ive only searched for watches with papers as i wouldnt trust to buy one without. 1) 12.1k usd https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/day-d...-id7935447.htm 2) 12.3k usd https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/daydate--id7518769.htm 3) 11.8k usd https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/day-d...-id7980232.htm 4) 12.4k usd https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/day-date--id7166012.htm 5) 13.8k usd https://www.chrono24.com/rolex/rolex...-id7878515.htm Many thanks! |

I don't think anyone can make any definitive assessments about any of those watches from those pictures.
They all look okay, but I wouldn't bet 10k Euros on that. You need to research not only the watches that you're interested in, but also the sellers. We have a saying here, "Buy the seller, then the watch," or words to that effect. In other words, know whom you are dealing with before you part with any bucks. Take your time and get the watch you want from a seller whose reputation is beyond reproach and has some kind of return policy and warranty.

They all have 5 star ratings on Chrono24 like as you can see from the links.
There are many pictures of the watches, so maybe you can spot something ... GradyPhilpott why wouldnt you bet 10k eur on one as they are much more new and these particular ones are in pretty mint condition right? |

Are you familiar with the model differences? I had a 18038 and a 18238 over the years. The 18238 was a double quick set (much easier to use) and the earlier version was not and you did a lot of stem twists to set stuff with the 18038.
Other issues I have seen is if there worn a lot and not cleaned a lot the bracelet gets sloppy. They call that stretch. Some are pretty bad so some people put aftermarket bracelets on them that look like a original. There usually made in Italy and are of nice quality but if you dont know about or understand the hallmarks on the back of the watch head and or bracelet you can be buying something that isnt 100% Rolex. That will degrade the price going in and also when you sell. If you buy a watch have the seller take the bracelet off. The ends of the watch show the model number on one side and the serial number on the other side. If the watch is a full set with the original paperwork it should match the actual watch number wise. Thats why full sets command more money even though the warranty does not apply. Watches can be stolen but the odds the box and paperwork are also stolen is remote. Kinda a warm fuzzy feeling thing. Theres a saying of buy the seller. It definitely applies. A professional with something to loose is much more reliable to get a real deal Rolex and be up front than some back alley deal. |

Im aware you can fake that stuff, but one seller has 154 ratings and one 100. Anyways these are the "best" according.

Serial on lug end of head and clasp code on bracelet. If I remember it was something like 8385. I would get familiar with what the real ones look like. The info is in here if you search. Real ones should be crisp and straight. There were fake ones that were slightly angled and not stamped well.

You seem eager to spend money on a site that others have been ripped off on. We've encouraged you to seek out more knowledge and buy from a trusted seller here or check out models at a brick and mortar - think hard about this.

I think this is a more popular model so there should be more places, any reputable ones where i can search from? / At this point i want to learn what might be off with the watch nr. 2 as they have written "Only Original Parts" , it has papers etc. if it feels good, the bracelet is firm, why wouldnt i buy it? |

FWIW IMO the reference your looking at is nice but its a older model with older potential customers. Those models are not flying off the shelf so you have time to learn. The advice is given and you have the tools on this forum to learn. Dont be that guy coming back saying hes been ripped off or that theres something wrong with the watch etc.
