AD won't polish my new Daytona?

I call the AD I JUST bought my SS Daytona from (like in August) and wanted to get a few light scratches out of it (normal wear/tear kinda things on the clasp, mostly).... I talked to 2 different people at this AD and they told me they wouldn't (no matter what) for 5 years. They said the metal would wear down and "round off the edges" if they did it, and would ONLY do it with a full service.

I called their sister store in Victoria and they said they would take care of it for $100.

I friggin HATE this area.... not a good service for ANY THING within 100 miles of here.. NOTHING.

Think of it as a favor in disguise....it doesn't sound too safe polishing your watch every few months anyway.

I have a few hairlines on my GV clasp and I've learned to live with them.

I don't wanna polish the crystal, just the SS clasp.... I'm sure you'd have to polish it 40-50 times to wear it down...

My last SS Sub, I polished every year and had it for 18 years... it wasn't a nub when I got rid of it.. lol..

anyway, if I wanna cut it in half, that should be left to me... and I can't find anyone who will do it... just pisses me off..lol

Why worry thats what happens when you wear a watch it gets scuffs and scratches all my omegas have got this but it does not bother me just part of wear and tear

Wouldn't it be great if they made 3M clear protective for Rolex's like they do for cars? I didn't get to put a clear bra on my Vette and now its too late but I've seen others that have and their paint looks brand new. Now if 3M would do the same for watches....

Hmmm, I wonder if Clear, shiny Scotch tape would do the trick?

Everyone hates scratches but there's no way around it. Just got to get used to it and forget about them.

I dont worry about my scratches, but thats just me.

Here's what you can do:

• Buy lathe
• Polishing wheel
• Rouge

No need to drive anywhere, you can do it yourself. A few TRFers refinish their own watches with excellent results.

Just urinate a little on the clasp and the scratches will miraculously disappear. Seriously. I'm not joking. Really...

A friend of mine and I are the same way about guitars. Hate to see them get scratched, dinged, ect.....Now we just calls them GOD marks. Just as a reminder that after all these are material items and in the great scheme of things really not that important. Ex... not to put them in a higher category than GOD. Not that we're extremely religous or anything. Just seemed fitting. You will get used to them.

I used to be that way about my Vette which by the way it's a C6 also with Z rims but I've learned NOT to sweat it. It's just a car or in this case, a really nice watch.

I hate those little scuffs more than anyone...and I've tried the scotch tape...doesn't work...

But the other day I got a look at my wife's watch...

(She has a SS chopard with diamond bezel and diamond edge bracelet...anyway, she wears it every day and is rough with it!

But it always shines and sparkles and looks like a million bucks...

I used to wonder how she manged to not baby it and have no scratches...)

The other day, I picked it up off the table (on the table not on a cloth watch pad on the table) and it was scratched all to hell!! I couldn't believe it...

BUt you know what...ON her wrist it glows...those little minor nicks and scratches really don't detract from anything...

Agree. And think about how cool all those old 5513s, and the like, look. I think the beauty of a Rolex Professional watch is the story it tells about its owner after a few years.

Yeah. Try as hard as you may to avoid them, but those scratches will come right back! A $100.00 is a lot to pay for a one day scratch free watch.

Its all relative I guess.... I usually get more than a few weeks without a scratch, but I don't like an AD telling me what I can and can't do.

So... the $26,000 I'm gonna throw down on the new 18kt GMT won't be going to those guys. I'm going 120 miles away (to the guy that will let me give him $100 to have a "scratch free" watch for one day).

But it bothers him, so it matters. I tend to agree w/ the OP...if he wants to polish his watch every 10 mins then he should have the right. As long as professionals are warning the owner of potential hazards associated with requested service, I don't see why it's such a hassle. Sorry HoustonRider...I feel for ya. Cheers.

I doubt if the AD would have a problem wiping the watch off, would you ask your saleman to paint your car?
