Steel or ceramic
I am on the lookout for a Sub no date but as I have made mistakes in the past I am trying to research the watch thoroughly.
I would like opinions or pros and cons of the watch like steel or ceramic etc. |

The Ceramic is built like a tank compared to the older one. While I liked the maxi dial, I could not get along with the bigger case and lugs. The C is better in quality in every way (bracelet, bezel, etc) but IMO it lacks the charm of the older models. Obviously with the C you can buy it new and get a 5 year warranty whereas the steel will be used.

I have a ceramic sub and a 16800 sub. Both are beautiful, but the bracelet on the newer one is much, much better. The clasp is also worlds better. With that said, the 16800 is very special to me and it's made it 30+ years already, so no reason why it couldn't go 30 more. Try on both and go with what your heart tells you because they are both great watches.

Having owned both steel and ceramic I'd say the ceramic upgrades are worth the cost. I personally like the maxi dial and updated refinements found on the newer models. Though as always YMMV.

If you can, you really need to try each one on and see which one "sings to you".

I personally like my 16610 submariner over the ceramic one but I would really like to have the availability to change the bracelet to the glidelock. During a service every 5-6 years if you change the aluminum bezel insert and polish the bracelet it’s a new watch. The ceramic insert alone is the price of a service.

One more question chaps. What's the difference between a 2 and 4 liner? Apart from 2 lines.
Thanks |
