Help deciding on which Milgauss
I'm looking to purchase my first Rolex and am drawn to the Milgauss for a variety of reasons even though it is not usually the most popular choice especially as a first Rolex watch. I was fortunate enough that my local AD had both the blue and black dial in stock, so I was able to compare the two. I'm still debating between blue or black dial, but am slightly leaning towards the black dial GV. This is where my question comes in. What are your thoughts on the original style black dial GV with the dual color lume vs. the new style black dial GV with the single color lume.
Also, does anyone happen to have seen both and have an opinion on brightness and longevity of each? Finally, I realize that the dual-color lume would require buying second hand as it is no longer made. I'm guessing that since it is pushing 10 years old, it would be due for a servicing immediately upon buying unless I was fortunate enough to find one that just got serviced? Any difference in buying M/V/G/Random serial? |

Welcome from one new member to another, I just bought my first Rolex in November it was a white milgauss. I love everything about it and wear it everyday. I was drawn to the white right away the AD had a blue in the display case and looked at as well but already had my mind made up.
So I guess I’ve helped you in no way shape or form but enjoy it when you get it |

Z-Blue. I have one and love it. The watch gets constant compliments from women when I am out for a night. The sub and the datejust do not even get noticed.

My first Rolex was the black face Milgauss. I tried on both the Z-Blue and the black in NYC and I was very tempted to go with the Z-Blue but I'm very glad I went with the black. It can be dressed up or down and truly has a unique look in the era of subs left and right. With that being said, this hobby is a slippery slope so start saving up right away for your next purchase! Haha regardless you won't be disappointed. Both are fantastic pieces.

I was to choose between the Z blue and black GV and finally took the black. Later on I also got the white dial which I slightly prefer over the other. The Z blue is beautiful it's just not for me.

Thank you all for the fast responses so far. Greatly appreciate them all. Great photo kans86!
Anyone have any thoughts on the two different lume options for the black Milgauss? |

Thank you for the comments on the Lume. Appreciate it. Perhaps I used a poor choice of words, but what I meant was that I would have to buy the watch used, not new, if I wanted the dual color lume. Not that I would have to replace the second hand. It seems like there is some divergent thoughts on when to service the watches with some people believing it should be every 10 years per Rolex recommendations and some believing it should be when the watch stops performing as well. |

I prefer the Black GV anniversary (as described in the original Basel and Milgauss press releases in 2007) edition. The Z Blue is a bit too colourful for me.

I agree with Adam. While I think that the Z-blue is beautiful, it isn’t the one for me... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

As far as service goes, any older watch, I'll have serviced unless the seller has documentation that it has recently been done.

I bought the Black GV. The Blue under Green sapohire doesnt look right to me. Rolex should have put the blue under clear sapphire.

Sometimes, I miss my Black GV. I loved the two color lume. It added more character for me. I never got acquainted with the Blue GV, though I had considered owning it once upon a time.

I originally bought the GV black and wore it for one night and took it back and swapped it out for the GV z-blue. I think it is a beautiful and unique watch that will be with me for a long time.

I pushed my husband to get the blue, but he fell in love with the black. I don't care for it personally. Now that he's had it a month, he's not as keen on it as he was, either. I think he's going to wind up trading it for something else.

I still prefer my original black dial GV.
I think the green crystal with the blue dial was a mismatch. The lume on my GV starts off bright with a charge but the longevity is not there. The GV is not instantly identified as a Rolex.

The black dial GV was my first Rolex, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Pondered the Z blue, but wanted to be a little more discreeet for work. I think it depends on the environment to be worn. Any will be an excellent choice.
