Start with the LV or the GMT II c Mike..dont worry bout the GV its already in production..its not the rarerity that makes it limited...its about something else..You will see it sooner than what you think....

Yeah I already have the 116710 LN and decided to start collecting the remaining 2 - LV and GV. Could have purchased the GV today, but the crystal isnt as pronouced as some of the photos on the forum. I will likely wait until i can get % off the GV to get one. Thanks for replying!

I didnt know GMT IIc was an anniversary model. However I have heard some rumours about it. But is it confirmed just like LV and GV?
However the first anni model I will like to collect is LV

None of these are "Anniversary" models as marketed by Rolex.. Different groups. enthusiasts, and Dealers are calling them that...but they are not boxed, marketed, or tagged that way.... The LV was released "in celebration of 50 years of the Submariner" back in 2003... but never as an "Anniversary Edition". It has become another choice in the Sub line-up.... I don't think that a Sub with a date has been around nearly that long... The GMT IIc is just a model upgrade of the GMT, with the single exception of the solid Yellow Gold "Anniversary" GMT II with green dial..and only that one.. The GV doesn't celebrate any anniversary at all... It's just part of the re-release of the Milgauss after a decade off the market.. but 2007/08 doesn't seem to correlate to any milestone in the Milgauss history.. I think it's great to collect these models, and they do have the Rolex green in common...... but they will all be around for a while

The re-introduction of the Milgauss was a surprise to some, but it was always planned to be a white dial, black dial, and green tinted crystal model offering... The original Milgauss, the 6541, was introduced in 1954, and the re-release was shown at Basel World in 2007. I don't recall anybody calling it an "anniversary" model until recently when they got the firing process for the process straightened out.. and production back on schedule for the GV.. I don't know why some assume it is an anniversary model.... it has never been marketed by Rolex as such..

Larry...I think the confusion stems from the LV. when it was introduced to celebrate 50 years of the sub. and the dealers took it upon themselves to explain the green bezel as an 'anniversary' move..instead of simply explaining that it was rolex's flagship color and was used to celebrate their success with the submariner...and some AD's will even say the others are 'anniversay' or 'commemorative' pieces...perhaps a bit of sales tactic??? or just ignorance on the part of the salesperson?? either way..thanks for clearing it up for us all...and hopefully this will help eliminate some of the outrageous premiums on these models in certain areas...Do you think that perhaps the AD's took advantage of the situation in order to create a 'hype' and increase demand for these pieces even thought they were aware that they would eventually become prudction models and not limited at all???

Justin,
All over the internet, sellers and Dealers are advertising the LV, the GV, and the GMT IIc as "Anniversary" models... Even AD's say it when you talk to them..... But, I've looked through the press releases for Basel on Rolex for several years, and the only time they have said anything about an anniversary model was in 2005 for the solid gold GMT II. And even that seems to have quickly disappeared.. Even when the LV first came out in 2003, folks were calling it a "Limited Edition", even though it was never marketed that way by Rolex, nor was it referred to as an anniversary model either, simply as a new model in the line-up "in celebration of 50 years of the Submariner" Now, everybody was speculating about a special "Anniversary" model to be released by Rolex this year (2008) at Basel because this is the 100th year for Rolex watches.. But it didn't appear............. They did release the Day-Date II in 41mm, and the new Deep Sea, but no mention or indication was ever made that they would release an Anniversary model... These things get legs, especially with the speed of the Internet, and the desire of folks to have something unique or different....... If you say it often enough, does it become true... ??

very good points, Larry. I agree and have not seen any mention of anniversary either. But at least there is TRF, where people can be educated and hopefully avoid crazy premiums due to "hype" and the AD's desire to make as much as possible. the only part that bothers me is that these people selling these watches are either misinformed or deliberately using terms like 'limited'...anniversary and commemorative to trick people into paying premiums...that is NO GOOD. thanks for the reply, Larry.

Here are some more models that have been around for 50 years but have no green, nor does anybody call their models anniversaries.
The Explorer came out in 1954.... no green, still looks the same The Air king... more than 50 years old... the only green is the lume. The Cosmograph came out in the 50's.. no green... no anniversary.. The DateJust came out in 1945....... You can order it with a green dial, but it doesn't mean anything.. The Day-Date came out in 1956, but it's 50 years passed without a whimper..and no green.. The Turn-O-Graph... It's as old as the Sub.. So, I guess that I'm baffled about all the rumor and speculation about anniversary models this past year or two... Rolex hasn't announced or advertised anything about them

Even Rolex already discountinued the SD & GMT Master II, we can still find those items in ADs. Or at least in Grey ADs.

I don't want to open a can of worms on this debate. but we need to look at what Rolex is intending. the serial of the green sub ends in LV, the SS GMT-C ends in LN, the GV etc. no other watch that can be considered an anniversary contains this - just simply a reference number i.e.. 16600, 16570, 16610 etc. and no letters. moreover, both the current sub and sea dweller contain a black bezel as does the LN, but they aren't referred to as lunette noir. I think letters after the model numbers has anniversary intentions, with the addition of sporting green only further supports this. lastly, the Daydate 50th has green all over the dial... meaning to me any Rolex sporting green can GENERALLY be considered an anniversary watch. With rolex being so secretive we can only follow and look for their trends ( trends = 16710 discontinued as a resulted of SS GMT-C, 16600 discontinued (as predicited by many on here) as a result of deepsea, 16610 discontinued as a result of SS Sub-C?? likely) without them specifically telling us. In conclusion, with the green (trend) and letters (trend) after model reference numbers I am inferring this to be anniversary.. This is just my 2 cents. |

regarding the above 100th anniversary of rolex watch... since rolex seems to be "ranging" these anniversary watches (if i may call them that). perhaps they will release a 100th this coming basel or in 2010. who knows. again rolex is so secrative that i cannot really tell whats going on with the green on watches. all i can do is try interpret their intentions through trends and relevant time period releases. again my 2 cents. |

You can't go wrong with any of these Jason!
GMT II-C with the green is my immediate obsession. Probably the most versatile and practical features of the bunch. Good luck in your quest! I got the GV for MSRP, (plus a few perks thrown in) |
