I used to love TRF, just like I used to love Facebook...

But as of late, the threads are killing me. Facebook used to be cool, then it just turned into a bunch of political bs news stories....I've only been around these parts for a few years, but TRF has morphed into a valuation, I hope my Rolex will be the next big collectable thing when it's discontinued, I have inside unconfirmed "official" info, blah blah blah blah.....

WHAT HAPPEN TO THE DAYS WHEN PEOPLE WERE ON HERE JUST TO ENJOY WATCHES? Share what they bought, compliment someone on their new incoming, discuss the pros and cons of a new reference, give pointers about Rolex I would have never known had I not joined like the proper GMT hand stack.

I know, many of you are thinking, "well stop logging in then." You know what, lately, I haven't been. I remember the days when I would log on first thing in the morning, spend an hour drinking coffee reading the threads, looking at the incomings. Now I log on and briefly scan over all of the "it's official" or the "it's collectable even though there's 500,000 of them" or you name it....

Social media has ruined rolex for me just like it has ruined everything else in life I enjoy. Oh well. I guess times are changing and I'm just not changing as fast.

My $.02. Stepping down from the soapbox....Had to vent.

well i can say perhaps you should read my interviews as referenced in my signature.

i dont mind all the thread diversity. keeps it interesting for me. now rolex supply is no fun right now but that has little to do with the forum.

You can be more selective, there is still a lot of traffic on this forum, still the leading one on luxury watches, so don't have to be so defeatist and dramatic... like many who ruin SM.

So it's ridiculous I post my thoughts about how TRF has changed? It's ridiculous I can't vent without BS comments like yours.

I'm looking for some of the BS post to stop...It has become a bit ridiculous lately....Some order to be restored within the force....I know may others probably feel the same as me.

Move on? Apparently you didn't read my whole post. All good..

Enjoy the all the "official my un-confirmed discontinued watch is going to be worth millions" threads....

I try to select the thread that I read and contribute to the discussion. I also try to start my thread that I believe can have a good discussion. However, not all of my thread has been well received but that’s ok. I move on and read the next thread.

I think what Seth was saying is that if you're not engaged just find another place that'll give you what you're looking for. For me, I just ignore the noise. I find TRF an amazing community full of color. Regardless of watches or not.

It was bad for a few months with the Rolex price rants, but it’s smoothed out and getting back to normal.

The Patek forum sucks now with never ending aquanaut and nautilus threads crying about trying to get one for MSRP when nobody wanted one a year or two ago. Same for the 15202.

The watches sit at kind of a sweet spot, where they attract all sorts of posters for all sorts of reasons. I gather these reasons (and posters) come and go, perhaps like fashion. The threads seem to be a reflection of that fashionable diversity.

Has it changed? Or have you?

People have been the same since the dawn of time. There is noise everywhere.

Social media has ruined Rolex did you? Just like everything else in life that you enjoy? Really?

Are you even reading what you wrote?

Man up. I’m personally annoyed 17 times a day at the BS the world has to provide. Social media simply shines a light at what has always been.

Again, man up. You going to post something for all to view and comment on, expect that some of the responses you get will be unsavory.

And if you don’t like it, challenge it, or move on to something you do like.

Move on, or challenge it is what I said.

I’m challenging it.

Exactly, it’s online stuff. It’s a watch forum. Not a big deal.

You see me as taking it personal. I’m actually trying to help.

You can say that and help, without the “man up”...that’s condosending... another reason I’m disappointed with what TRF has become.

It’s turned from a group of watch enthusiasts to a bunch of condosending online personalities who know better than the next.

You want to help, don’t question their manhood with “man up.” Outside of the keyboard, I have manned up and see more in a year than you will in lifetime. You’re not challenging me Seth, you’re being condosending with man up. Again, you don’t like my venting, pass over it.

You want to help, do it without telling someone to grow a sack. Anyhow I’m done engaging you before the mods shut this down.

In the end, I know others feel the same. I felt like venting. Man up and deal with it.

OP, I understand your position. Remember though how the prices have risen over the years.

My first Rolex was $3,200 and my latest $12K. Many here do not dabble at the low end where I do. So if I worry about value I can only imagine what others who buy much higher grades than I do also have a care about value.

Is it a topic to obsess over? Probably not, but at those values I can readily understand why someone might.

TRF is a reflection of the people who post; the people who post should not be an indictment of TRF as it changes from year-to-year as members evolve.

If you don't like the flavor of the posts lately, why not come up with interesting discussions or reflections that will enhance the Forum, rather than threads denigrating the membership (TRF) as a whole.

I agree w the notion that social media, FB being the prime example, for the most part sucks and is more evil than good. It’s hard for me to lump TRF in w other social media platforms though. Overall I think it’s a great group of people with diverse postings in all the different subforums. I just ignore the threads that seem boring (eg I get it, the new Pepsi isn’t exactly blue and red). But it provides useful information for those seeking it, from novice to long-time enthusiast, and is very entertaining. I mean this posted picture alone was worth the hour I’ve spent browsing TRF today !
