Oh no...am I a flipper now?

Some of you may recall that it was almost exactly one year ago that I was deciding between the OP39 Rhodium or Blue Dial. I eventually decided on the rhodium dial despite some claims on this forum about it’s lack of legibility.

Well, I should’ve listened more closely to those claims. I gave it a chance, really I did, but it became increasingly clear to me that the combination of its being somewhat monochromatic, plus my less than perfect eyesight, meant that it had to go. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a lovely watch but unless I was in sunlight or a well lit room I was having difficulty reading the time.

I put the watch up for sale on the forum two days ago and today it sold. Yay for me. So, what’s next? The same watch with the white dial that was introduced at Baselworld a few months ago. Why not the blue OP39 since that was the runner up last year? Because if the white dial had been available a year ago that’s the one I would have gotten then and I’ve already decided to get the blue Pelagos to satisfy my itch for a watch with a blue dial.

So there you go. Go ahead, I’ve got a tough skin, call me a flipper.

We all become a flipper at some point in time. Just not a flipper for profit :(

While we’re on the topic I find it funny how nobody cared when people were flipping watches for 2-3k losses, now that some have gone up in value it’s a crime against humanity.

Actually they did care and many were called suckers, so by the same token these flippers should actually be lauded... and they would be if they weren't starving genuine buyers from product.

I'm looking at the new models next week at my ADs boutique new model showing (mock versions) Am looking forward to see the new black OP39 but there is much more talk of the white one. You may want to hold off.

I’m expecting the white OP39 to be available by the end of June.
I’ll jump on it then.

Probably in the fall.
I’m sure I’ll need to kick in a few more bucks for the OP so that sets the watch fund back a bit.

Think you haven’t read enough comments on this forum if you think being called a flipper requires thick skin.

In all serious, nothing wrong with what you did IMO. Unless watch was a gift or inheritance it’s just a material item that can be moved on as you wish..

Don’t think twice about it; you should thoroughly enjoy every aspect of any watch you own, especially at these prices. Good luck in hunting for a new one, that’s a big part of the fun.

Flipping is all about timing, so if you buy and sell on the same day you deserve the chair, if it takes a year, you get a set of steak knives.

I actually wouldn’t call that flipping

Owning a watch for a year, and giving it a real go, isn’t the same as someone who flips after a week or two, at least in my book.

With your collection, have you considered a DJ41

I’ve been through the DJ, should I or shouldn’t I, stage a few years ago Brian. I finally realized that I don’t care for PCL’s or the cyclops and don’t really need a date function.

+1. Flipping is more of buying a watch specifically to sell.

I agree, this doesn't tag you as a flipper. You tried, it didn't work, good to move on. The new white OP is very sharp. I'd like one but I think it might be too small for my wrist. Or maybe will feel too small as I've been wearing my SD43 almost daily since I got it. I'm looking forward to seeing one in person.
