President Bracelets

I went to Sam's Club today to buy a couple of cheesecakes and the place was packed. As I was walking around the place I noticed two different Rolex Day-Dates. One had a bark finish president bracelet, and the other was older with an acrylic crystal and a conventional (or adjustable) clasp president bracelet.

About what time did Rolex stop making the conventional clasp president bracelet? The concealed crown clasp president is by far the most common president bracelet seen. I have only seen the adjustable type bracelet in pictures before today.

You could get the 18038 with the clasp and it was introduced around 1976ish. Not sure how long it was available.

Not sure when it was discontinued, but my 18239 (bought it used) came with the older clasp, which for me is better than the new concealed one as can easily adjust sizing :

I think the concealed clasp was an option.

That is really cool ....I have never ever seen one in white gold, even in pictures. I really like that. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Thanks. As said above originally the president bracelet had the regular clasp with the concealed clasp as an option; later regular clasp was discontinued. My watch (A serial) originally was released with the concealed clasp so looks like a previous owner swapped the bracelet with an older one

As I've mentioned before, I have seen the conventional clasp president bracelets in pictures. They were usually attached to the 16018, and 16238 DJ's and some 4 digit DD's with pie pan dials. It was really cool to see it on a 4 digit DD with the plastic (acrylic) crystal. Something about the 4 digit acrylic DD's appeal to me. I really like the vintage look, and the crystal makes it look like the watch is wearing a little top hat.

I have seen the 16018 and 16238 fitted with a hidden clasp president before as well as the hidden crown clasp jubilee (super jubilee) which look great but the conventional president being rare makes the watch have a higher wow factor

I have a new 116233 (new in 2016 when I bought it) and although I love it, it's just like the presidents when it comes to adjusting. I've lost a ton of weight since I got the new DJ, and although I love it, I wish I could adjust it like I do my 5 digit DJ's.

The adjustable president is cool on it's own, but the WG you have make the cool and wow factors on your watch go way up lol. Enjoy it in great health. Perhaps I'll get lucky enough to find a 18239, or 18039 with the same bracelet in perfect condition with no stretch one day. I'd snatch it up in a heartbeat just because you hardly ever see those bracelets.

Do you have any idea what it would cost to replace the original concealed WG president bracelet on your watch? I kind of remember what Rolex quoted me for the concealed bracelet in YG for my 18038, and I almost swallowed my tongue lol

New probably like $7k USD or more; have seen the used bracelet for around $3.5 - $4.5 USD. Always cheaper to buy watch with bracelet

Yeah. it's crazy .... Rolex quoted someone I know 12,000 for a solid gold jubilee for a 34 mm date model

I actually prefer the older clasp on my 1803 president bracelet.

Yours is another beauty. Yours is the 2nd WG president with the conventional clasp, and only in pictures. As stated in above posts, that bracelet is awesome because it is different, and your being WG makes it even better. I'd even buy one that has a lot of stretch, because I'd send it to Michael Young to rebuild it.
