What is going to happen to the older GMT reference prices?

With the new Pepsi pricing over $20,000 I wonder what will happen to the older references? Will it push the 16710 price even higher than now? What about the 116710BLNR and the 116710LN?

I have been saving forever for a 5-digit GMT Pepsi. I have been holding out because I have not make any significant achievement in life to justify a Rolex. The longer I wait, the price for the decent ones just keep going higher and higher. I also thought of settling with a BLNR or LN as the prices are more predictable (though my true love is 16710 Pepsi)

Advice please!

Not going anywhere. There is still that desire for the 5 digit references and buyers like yourself only reinforce that fact. I would try to pick one up you like sooner rather than later.

It feels like every model is going up in price these days. With vintage Daytona prices going for what they are it seems to be having an "all ships rise in high tide" effect, which is nice for the sellers I guess. With all the hype around the new Pepsi and the popularity of the BLNR I think the GMT line is about to spike in price just like the Daytona has over the past few years. The days of getting a 16710 under 10k are numbered imo

TAKE YOUR TIME, and Watch the Classifieds here on TRF. When you see one you like, check out the seller on the "Whos Who" section on this forum. If they check out, Pull The Trigger! If you are still a bit paranoid, use Paypal to make your purchase if the Seller will accept PayPal (the seller may ask you to cover PayPal costs, but it may be worth it to you).

Also keep some cash set aside for a proper service, even if you go independent rather than RSC. Anything 10 years or older without service history should be assumed to be dry of oils and wearing itself out.

It's not sexy to talk about service but an important consideration when buying older watches.

At current price, 116710LN a much better deal. Even before the mania, it’s already available at good deal for used piece in mint condition at mid 6 grand to low 7.

Bagging one ASAP is the achievement. It sounds like you've got the justification covered.

Wrong attitude. An example..

Take a really fine bottle of Champagne, a good one. The one you keep for that special occasion. It comes out at a high point with cheer to celebrate the chosen event. But, in the good times the Champagne itself is forgotten, it's secondary to the occasion.
A wise Frenchman will tell you this is wrong - the fine Champagne itself should be celebrated without occasion, the occasion is the fine sparkling drink.

So, on these special occasions where one would be distracted toasting a triumph, an inexpensive Champagne will do.

Now, I'm not suggesting you buy a Longines when your have your first born, rather, don't wait to celebrate the achievement with a Rolex, the Rolex is the achievement or occasion..

If you want one I would find a good example and buy it. If you are waiting for the prices to go down I don't think it will happen in the near future. I have been the vintage route and it is not for me. I am buying the Tudor GMT when it arrives at my AD and for me this is the best of both worlds.

The whole market is red hot. If you’re buying to wear and enjoy then yes by all means buy now and enjoy.
