3186 test for GMT
Can anyone refer to the thread that explained the "wiggle" test. I just bought an M serial GMT from my AD...it has the new book, but they did not want to open the case to confirm. I'm glad I got it anyway, so it is not that important, but I would still like to know.

Just pull the stem out to the Mercedes hour hand "jump" position. give it a slight "wiggle" back and forth.... the 24 hr hand will not wiggle back and forth with the crown movement as the detents for the jump function are now moved slightly away from the hand-stack effectively "decoupling" them..

I think we have a wiener! Thanks Larry. There is no movement at all until it gets to the very top or bottom of the rotation as it is about to click. Does that sound right? I will compare to my older GMT when I get home.

It's a 3186. I have yet to see an M serial with a 3185.

I looked at an M serial Explorer II. Did Rolex change them to the 3186 movement, too?
