Yes BUT Christmas is a Christian Festival. Other religions have different celebrations at Different times of the year; except Chanukah which is usually in December. Lets enjoy them all

This is the United States, where we do not have a national church, and along with Christmas, we celebrate Christmas, Hunnukah, Eid, Kawanza, and the end of the year, no matter the religion. I wonder what percentage of Rolexes sold worldwide in December are Christmas presents, versus being bought to celebrate another holiday or just the season. Think about all the Islamic countries that are big Rolex consumers, not to mention China, India, and all the Jewish Rolex customers! Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the Orthodox Church celebrates Jesus's birth a number of weeks later?

I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday season and New Year!

Thanks for the unrequested lesson in political correctness. However, you're incorrect. Jesus IS the reason for the Christmas season.

Everytime my girl say's "Let's put up a tree" I end carrying a messy, needle dropping brush into the 2nd story of my home. "Let's put up some lights" I end up climbing a ladder and freezing digits off. Gotta love the season. Merry Christmas everyone!

Queen, the original post says "Jesus is the reason for the season." It did not say Jesus is the reason for the "Christmas Season." Clearly, Jesus is the reason for Christmas. My point was that people, who are not Christians, are celebrating the season too.

I wish everyone good seasonal tidings.

I prefer not to take such a strict constructionist tact of interpretation. Jesus is the reason for the season" is a well known phrase most often associated with Christmas. Do a very small handful of Jews and Muslims in the US and UK celebrate Hanukkah and Eid, respectively? Sure, but the point is Christmas is the predominant holiday of the season. I am tired of people taking the balls out of Christmas.

When discussing the "holiday season" in America, its usually Christmas and there should not be a need to footnote the celebrations of every religious group when mentioning Christmas. It doesnt matter that we dont have a national church; we are a Christian nation.

People celebrate the holidays, and practice their religion in their individual ways. Who is taking the "balls out of Christmas"? (BTW, I find it offensive to describing Christmas as if the holiday has testicles). As long as no one is forcing their beliefs upon others, or infringing other people's civil rights, Christmas should be celebrated as devoutly or as secularly as each family wishes. My suggestion is that if you are concerned that Christmas is too commercialized, or the meaning of the holiday is somehow being diluted, start at home, and focus on what you do to celebrate the birth of your savior, don't worry what other people are doing.

BTW, although it has a nice ring to it, I never hear the expression "Jesus is the reason for the season" before and I still stand by my original comment that despite the nice rhyme, it is incorrect.

You think so, huh? Our government was formed to protect the minority from the tyranny of majority. As Wikipedia puts it:

Limits on the decisions that can be made by such majorities, such as constitutional limits on the powers of parliament and use of a bill of rights in a parliamentary democracy, are commonly meant to reduce the problem.

The idea goes back at least as far as Plato's Republic, while the phrase itself originated with Alexis de Tocqueville in his Democracy in America (1835, 1840) and was further popularized by John Stuart Mill, who cites de Tocqueville, in On Liberty (1859); the Federalist Papers frequently refer to the concept, though usually under the name of "the violence of majority faction," particularly in Federalist 10.

As long as we hold true to this fundamental precept of our democracy, we are not a Christian nation.

The United States is a nation of minorities. It always has been and is more now than ever. The fact that the american population is predominently Christian does not make our country a Christan nation.

Ryan, I am enjoying our scholarly debate. I am not concerned Christmas is too commercialized; my concern lies in the secularization of Christmas. Its now Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Manger scenes are either taken down or accompanied by Menorahs and crescents.

I should point out that you incorrectly assume that "Jesus is my savior." I'm simply a Jewish guy who is exasperated with the pervasiveness of political correctness.

You're citing Wikipedia? Regardless, I disagree; we are a Christian nation because Christianity is the majority population. Our legal system more closely resembles Judeo-Christian values than it does Sharia law, for instance.

First of all name is Brian. If you are Jewish, why are you so concern about the secularization of Christmas? I suggest you be more concerned about maintaining the secularization of our country.

Who would have thought that wishing someone a merry Christmas would be so very difficult. I may be in Texas, but I know that in Britain it is custom to say Merry Christmas. That's what the Brits do and they don't have a problem with it.

Merry Christmas, Jon.
