Is AD SS Rolex stock at an all time low?
It certainly seems to be in SE Asia.
I was in Hong Kong last week and poked my nose into several dealers, both AD and grey.* At the ADs, the lack of stock was astonishing; all that was available was DJs and PM. However, the greys had pretty much whatever you wanted. However, what I found absolutely staggering was a used Milgauss at HK$ 13,400 above retail (UK£ 1,300 / US$2,340). At the boutique at HK airport, I asked if they had any SS sports models in stock. I was told the closest they had was a YG YMII. Back down here in Singapore, I had a look in three ADs yesterday and found a single black dialled EXP II, a SS YM II, a TT YM, an Air King and a TT Daytona. I don't know what it's like in the UK and US but I did the stock levels here unbelievable. If I was looking for a watch right now, it would off to Panerai for me. *Sorry Adam, I was with Mrs Van D and Ma Van D. I'd have PM'd you otherwise.

I know datejusts are their biggest seller but would be interesting to know if sales of datejusts, bi and precious metals have risen even further due to lack of SS professional stock. In other words has deliberately restricting supply increased sales on more profitable models?
Or Have they restricted SS models at all, or is it just demand has risen so rapidly that everything is sold sold before hitting the AD’s window? |

Indeed, no stock for the SS sports model (Sub, SeaDweller, SkyDweller, GMT and Daytona) in SIN, HKG, or even BKK right now. Even for the newly launched two-tone GMT CHNR model!
Twice I have been to BKK and HKG in the past 2 months (May & June) and no luck. Which is why I think those who posted that they were able to obtain a SS Daytona and other sports model in the BKK airport were really extremely lucky! |

Most definitely HK$ 75,000 and it was a dealer on Mody Road, couple or three doors along from Rimowa boutique and a short walk from Nathan Road. Interestingly, they had a BLNR for 'only' HK$89,500. There was also both variants of the Daytona C, a Sub LV and a 16610 LV. I can't remember the name of the dealer though.

It gets discussed ad nauseam but I've never known stock to be that low out here and I've never seen a Milguass going for above retail. Yes, I know that the blue dial (I think ) sold at a premium on release but not your standard black dial and most certainly not now.
So yes, it is something new.

According to my high-traffic outer London AD no BLNR stock since Jan and no LVc at all this year. It’s possible I’m being told porkies, but the price of the LVc has breached a scarcely believable £10k on WF and the BLNR is less than a K behind so I’m inclined to believe supply really is at a nadir.

Yep. Just about all SS sport models never see the showcase. Once they arrive they're already spoken for.

It’s not good here either Paul. Virtually no stock of professional models.

Same here, I was at the Big T in White Plains, NY (Westchester Mall), the only SS sport model they had was the AK. It was remarkable how many empty display spots they have in their display case. Of course that is hurting them, but have to wonder how much. So someone comes in to buy a fine timepiece, and they are not your typical enthusiast, so they look at other brands. I now notice people trying on Cartier watches. Perhaps the Rolex shortage is helping other brands.

Crazy stuff here in SIN too. Popped by Changi T1 terminal and nil sports model.
Crazy grey price for the CHNR at a local grey outlet. Looks like someone has bought it too... |

Seriously. In Europe you can get every steel rolex in 3 months. Everybody I know buys them in Spain. Only Daytona (off cause) is still really really hard to get, and 1 year on the Hulk and Skydweller in blue.
One off my closest friends bought a BLNR with discount (I think ads there offen make VAT hustle haha) and the waiting was 3 months. Just got it, shipped to him. |

Well I guess this debuncts the rumor that the majority of ss sport models are being shipped to Asia due to the high demand for Rolex.

The situation is the same in the US for the most part, my guess is this will be the new norm for the time being.

From my personal observations
1. Low in big city markets to many people want to buy 2. For the big city markets if you are a big spender then you can find most items. 3. Smaller market but chain AD just like the big city market seems they just move product to the best customers 4. Smaller market and not a chain - best bet and that is even becoming harder |

Stock in the U.K. Is very low this summer. I have visited several AD's, they are furious at the lack of supply. Subs and GMTs are what makes it worth stocking the rest of the shit (their words) worth it. Uncharacteristicly they are very vocal with what they think of Rolex.
Not a good sign. I too am getting tired of their lack of availability (I have moved countries and no longer have a good relationship with an AD), I have sold 9 of my 14, many for a great deal more than I paid, thank you Rolex. |

As a longtime Rolex owner of three of their watches (the first was in 1989 and the last was bought in 2006), I don't know what happened with Rolex but between the oversized cases, clown dials (on the sport watches), polishing of center links of sports watches, pricing and general lack of availability of what most buyers want, I wonder why they still have so many fans. They sure have lost me as a customer of a new purchase (all mine were bought new from ADs). I like my three (16233, 16610, 16710) very much but I have such large profit potential for each, especially the 16710, it's tempting to sell them.

That said, I would never consider selling mine for the reasons you note. Sure you could make a tidy profit; however, considering the direction Rolex is going with the bloated cases, glitzy polished center links and clown dials (brilliant!) expect you would quickly come to regret your decision. |
