Which watch for an only, daily, 24/7 wearer - 114060 or 116500LN white dial?
A couple of weeks ago I picked up a 114060 and am really enjoying it so far, it's an incredible watch, something I could see myself wearing for years. But I just spoke with my AD and it looks like my name might be coming up on the list for a 116500LN white dial in the next couple of months -- a stunning piece, surely one that would be difficult (impossible?) to pass on from an AD.
I'm trying to find "the one", an only watch, that I can wear 24/7 and pass along to my son one day. Out of these two options, which would you choose if you could only pick one to wear every day and for every occasion? Ultimately it will come down to personal preference, as I'm guessing both could fit the bill nicely and be equally versatile and durable. I'm really posting this looking for outside thoughts or opinions that I haven't considered. |

Daytona will always be my vote. I have smaller wrists and it just suits me better.

One and only, absolutely a Sub - sounds like your AD might be going out of business if someone who just bought a Sub ND as their only watch is coming up soon for a Daytona - either that or he's anchoring your expectations way too high.

The Daytona is way too busy for me. I prefer the simplicity of the Sub.

I wear a Sub date and a white Daytona. If I had to nail it down to one watch, it would be the Sub without hesitation. But I've always preferred dive watches and I like the toughness and versatility of the Sub. At least 50% of the appeal of the Daytona for me is that it's "The Daytona" and wearing it just feels special.
That said, if you get offered the Daytona you probably should buy it and form your own opinion. As long as you can float the cash, you literally have nothing to lose. |

And your second paragraph nails the practical aspect of the situation. I can't see myself passing on it for this very reason. If after several months or a year it doesn't seem to be the one, then resale is obviously not a problem. |

Submariner. Why?
The busyness of the subdials in a chronograph, regardless of whether or not it's the "Daytona", essentially makes every chronograph from every brand look the same to me. Rolex Daytona, AP Chrono, Tag Chrono, Breilting Chrono, Omega Chrono, Timex Chrono, Seiko Chrono. My eyes glaze over. The Daytona, generally speaking, is the LEAST distinctive sport model in the entire Rolex line. Just my opinion. |

As a huge fan of both watches, I am leaning more toward the Sub.
Don't get me wrong, the Daytona is iconic, very in demand right now, and gorgeous in its own right. However, the symmetry of the no-date, the brushed bracelet, the glidelock, the uni-directional bezel, and how it looks like the original submariner - I think this is the one. |

These are two of my favorite Rolexes and owning both would be a great pair but if I could only have one as a daily, it would be the Daytona. I think it's more versatile, as it dresses up better than a Submariner, and the complication is both more interesting and useful.

The Daytona is beautiful in person. it shines in the daylight with incredible class but you have to ask yourself how you feel about PCLs for daily wear and if you find yourself using glidelock much? if you use glidelock on a daily or even weekly basis then I would say that may answer your question. The easylink on Daytona is ok. I generally find I am not looking for that much added room and just live with a tight fit on an extremely hot afternoon rather than opening the easylink.

I've worn both as a daily, currently wear the white as often as my LVc, both are more interesting than a black subc, which I've sold twice.

Now, if you were comparing the Daytona with something other than a Sub -- let's say a 1267xx GMT with 3285 inside -- then I might not be as quick to vote for the Daytona. As a one-and-only watch I would likely err on the side of a GMT before anything purely due to functionality. Most people would get more use out of a GMT complication than a chronograph. But, this is Sub vs. Daytona. Keep in mind that the Sub carries its own hype, just in different ways. There are millions out there because it's what everyone wants to have. I'd opt for anything but a black Sub if hype is even remotely a consideration. |

Regardless of the hype, it is more about which one you want more. For me it is the white dial Daytona C. I just love the piece. Dial, case, design, I'm a bigger fan.
... but even better question, how long have you been waiting for the Daytona. I would love to jump on an AD where I can buy 1 watch and be offered a Daytona so quickly haha. It's impossible here unless you are buying PM after PM after PM |

I only have the white 116500 and wear it everyday. I like how it doesn’t scream Rolex. It’s sporty and classy. I have had it over a year and have no interest in wearing anything else. I would not pass that up if your AD calls you. You can hold onto the sub for awhile while you wear the Daytona and worst case if you loose interest in it you could sell it or even if you have sold the sub you can sell it buy the sub again and still come out ahead. I wouldn’t call that flipping as it sounds like you realy need to try it for awhile first.

This one is tough. I really like the look of the Daytona, but think the dial is a bit busy and question whether or not it would be too small vs the sub at 40 mm. I think I would have to give the nod to the Sub for better dial legibility and for a daily wear that’s extremely important...to me at least.
