Icon11 Online vintage watch shops that accept credit cards?

Hi guys,

I have a client who is looking to browse vintage watches online, and potentially pull the trigger immediately should he find something he likes, WITHOUT "click here to enquire", wire transfers, etc. He wants a normal e-com experience. It doesn't need to be the lowest price available.

Obviously I know HQMilton, Bob's Watches, WannaBuyAWatch, TheVintageConcept... what else am I forgetting here?

Thanks!!

Well obviously it happens, and some sites exist the way I'm describing, as mentioned above... just trying to think of some others to add to the list.

Perhaps have him reach out to a few people and make arrangements ahead of time. Who wants to eat 3% off the top just for fees?

Cough, ahem, what sellers want to lose 3% right off the top of their sometimes less than 10% margin?

I never understood how watch dealers got around accepting credit cards like normal shops online. People tend to spend more on a credit card as it does not feel like spending real money.

I'm sure it's because being a credit card merchant is a PITA. Never mind the interchange fees eating away at your revenue but also dealing with chargebacks, fraud, PCI-DSS compliance, payment gateway vendors, etc.

If you care about your 'rich' client then advise him to not buy a vintage watch online.

I'm sure all these places accept American Express, and that thousands of watches across the world have been easily purchased by guys using Platinum cards.

Rich is a relative term, but I buy almost everything on my credit card so I get cash back. Some people get 'rich' by being smart with their money.

The Vintage Rolex Scene has it’s own rules,This is not Amazon.I would tell Him to stick to new Watches,Collecting Vintage Rolex takes Hundreds of Hours of dedication. You don’t just plop down your Visa and ride off into the Sunset with your NOS Gilt 5513.I bought all my Watches Cash(Wire). The current Market is a Sellers dream,No need to take Plastic when the next Guy has Cash....That’s what it boils down to.

Agree...it's amazing how many people associate using a credit card with not being able to afford something. Did it ever occur to you guys that people make large purchases with their CCs to get the points/cash back? Obviously the caveat here is that people need to pay off their credit card in full every month, so as to not incur any interest.

I've flown around the world in business class on miles that I wouldn't have gotten if I paid cash. How is spending "straight cash" getting you the same benefits?

Ahem, ummm, yeah that’s who I want for a customer...
...a buyer so clueless they need an emissary just to find an online seller...then wants to pull the trigger instantly - without research - without engaging in discourse - clueless to the terms, conditions, policies and finality of a sale - who then wants to use a credit card whose issuer will take the money back in a NY minute once the clueless buyer finds a spec of dust that wasn’t disclosed...

good point! I would imagine some of this would be due to being uncomfortable wiring cash maybe? i had a buddy recently buy a watch through a reputable seller here and he was a bit apprehensive. It was his first time wiring cash and he too said he wished he could use his credit card. I assured him ill cover the bill if the watch never arrived, mostly because i had a watch in the box too!
