Is this guy for real?

A rescuer said Musk's kid size sub was a PR stunt, so Elon called him a pedo. Is Elon a 12 year old in junior high school or a visionary entrepreneur?

In fairness to Elon, the Limey that stated it was a PR stunt also suggested the man stick it ...somewhere: Uncalled for. But really, if you weren't a 12 year old, you might not dignify schlock like that with a reaction. Doing so undermines the appearance of being the benevolent visionary you'd like common folks to think you are.

The reporting says it's unfounded.

Maybe it takes one to know one?

FWIW, Limey is an insult. Probably best not to use it to describe a Brit.

He's like an alien with double the IQ of the average human. I can understand why the people on this planet annoy him

Based on the correspondence he posted, he wasn't imposing his submarine on the rescue operation. He has a track record for building things that are useful -- with a notable exception being PayPal

And Zip2, and X.com...

The reporting is saying nobody in Thailand liked the sub idea. He got into it with everyone who said no to the idea. I guess accusing a guy of being a pedophile is his way of gathering up high profile defamation lawsuits to keep his name front and center for his investors..

Overall I am a fan, although I agree he comes off as abrupt and socially awkward. He should tone down his social media presence... hopefully he understands what he's doing and how it looks

He’s such a talent but also an ass.

30yrs ago, with no inter webs and 24h news, we’d never known he was an ass.

That and the new trend of trafficking in conspiracy theories. I mean what is that?

Two wrongs don't make a right, but in some circles, one crude remark deserves another.

Actually, the media didn't need to report the childish comments, but it's the unfortunate norm.

Have to be honest here, I'd nevr heard of Mr Musk before this thread.

Whatever was said and done, calling someone a paedo (when they are not) is bang out of order

I hear ya GP, but he’s a CEO of a public co under contract to the us gov.

His frame of mind and competency is fair game. And his deletion of the comments kinda proves he erred.

Yeah, I’m generally an Elon Musk fan, but this is embarrassing, as are a lot of other public tweets/comments. Someone on the board needs to take away his Twitter account.

The news media is so out of control that I don't believe anything they say unless I see it in reliable video footage or actually hear it come out of someones mouth on camera, and even then 'context' is a key issue.
My thoughts about the 'submarine' at the time were "Doesn't sound like it is the ideal solution to this particular challenge, but kudos to Mr Musk for at least offering a suggestion".

He promoted his rescue sub very publicly, it was on all the news here. It didn't get any traction with the emergency team and he publicly attacked anyone who said it wasn't right for this emergency. It sounds like he made a pest of himself about it and someone from the team told him to p1ss off.

I think if his goal was truly altruistic we would not have seen the sub promoted in every news cycle. It would have all been quietly behind the scenes like all the other organizations who offered support. I can see how the participants in the rescue would see his contribution as a stunt.

I hate salesman who pose as technical experts (most bankers probably fall in this category)... but Musk isn't that.

Has a Wharton undergrad degree, but also a physics degree. skilled programmer, and is actively involved in engineering his products.

In terms of who pays for the ideas, he does because he is risking massive amounts of his equity

This comment seems to work rather well anytime someone is criticized. It just has to be the media’s fault.

I haven’t followed this issue so I have no idea for certain what’s going on. Not even sure I care. But I do hate that everything seems to get written off because it can because we now have the excuse that works for all things. It’s the media’s fault not mine.

No matter all the proof in the world, proving the negative is really becoming quite the chore.

Imho, he’s a tool.

I used to respect him.

I now think he’s a child. I also think he got lucky in a lot of ways. Similar to a lot of people who have “made it”.
